Yeah… I now feel a little sad that we’ve seen story games rise up from inspiration from camping and now they’ve more or less completely died out.
Well there were sort of limited options you could do with them. It was good while it lasted but realistically it wasn’t really sustainable, and unlike other genres they didn’t overstay their welcome.
I’d prefer the thoughts about them to be fond memories rather than disappointment.
Heard that Ripull ended up being an abuser, unfortunately.
MY MATEY
Had a Reflective Ralts in PFE. Also mentioning for the umpteenth time that I moderated the MoE wiki when the game was still being worked on.
I was less than a week away from turning 13 when LL released. Now I’m four days away from my 20th birthday, with nothing to show for it other than an existential crisis and wishing I wasn’t pushed into the college pipeline immediately after high school. Oh, and in all that time we still haven’t gotten to Route 9, even though it’s been three years since Atlanthian Part 2.
Of course, we can’t have ANYTHING. Real unfortunate though, used to play that game all the time with my siblings.
Reflective Deoxys. I remember getting it, I genuinely think I almost cried. I skipped out on going to a fucking wedding to play this stupid pokemon game. I miss it, those were THE TIMES. I used to go over to my cousins house so we could figure out how to get pokemon. Granted, I wouldn’t enjoy it today, but the memory of doing it will never not be something i look back on happily.
It blows my mind that it’s been that long.
Pokemon Brick Bronze is another game that I love to death. I’ll be honest, I’ve played one of those remakes that pop up for a few weeks max. It really was NOT a bad game. I enjoyed the time I spent playing it lol, and the story is’t even that bad. But man, I was HOOKED on roblox pokemon games. I think it’s really funny because I hadn’t watched pokemon until YEARS after I played those games. Watching Kalos for the first time as a teenager was a bit of a blessing though, I can’t lie. Coolest shit ever. ANYWAYS, to this day I’ll occasionally go back and watch some pokemon. My relationship with it is weird, but it makes me feel like a toddler with no responsibilities, yknow?

At the time literally EVERY new released game was a camping game, it kinda had to die eventually lol. Most of them were pretty forgettable though, the airplane stories were kinda notable ig. But the original camping series Samson made are always fun to think back on.
Yeah they arguably became a slop genre for a bit, but at the same time it’s just a bit sad to see the genre go out with a whimper.
