People responding with “better than what I can make” to artists about their art - or pretty much anyone who makes anything - especially those who degrade themselves.
Better doesn’t always mean good and worse doesn’t always mean bad. I get people don’t want to come off as harsh but I find it slightly irritating and unproductive that they tend to use this response. It’s vague and doesn’t really go into detail about what’s good and not good about someone’s work.
Art is also subjective, not just in drawings but also in any other form, which complicates feedback. Some people don’t like minimalistic art because they think it’s lazy or shallow, others don’t like highly-detailed art because they think it’s overdone or ugly. I myself don’t even draw often and when I do I almost never get any feedback, yet I still get annoyed by seeing people using the aforementioned response to the works of others.
There is still a standard that determines whether a work is good though, but it varies among people- some might even think a decent drawing is “shitty”, but what’s important to consider is not what you say about someone’s work, but how you frame your feedback to it, and calling someone’s art “shitty” is a very unprofessional and informal way to do it, especially for those who are in the position of handing out artist roles to others.
The most important thing to consider isn’t about achieving perfection, but to do better and improve at what you do. At the end of the day, your opinion of your own works are slightly more important than the opinions of others.
i hate when people are Shitting on us artist or assuming stuff that isn’t true. like child liking for having chibi artstyle. cause i never support those people.
