The reason why I don’t like people focusing on AI is because it seems, self centred in a way, since I don’t see people calling for action for companies that are selling us food who using child labour and modern slavery to make those products, yet people are screaming for AI to be stopped.
Like we CAN absolutely hold those companies accountable, we CAN call for action for stuff that happens in other countries, but only acting when societal problems affect us specifically is just… stupid in a way, since why would anyone want to give you rights when you don’t care for the rights for others?
think it’s atleast partially with the difference in how known stuff is, and how directly annoying stuff is
The stuff with labour from other countries is much less known and has a much less obvious effect that people notice
Vs ai constantly and consistently trying to stuff itself in your face and being as obnoxious as possible
whereas with labour, companies may be actively trying to hide it or just not saying a single thing abt it
ai is in our face vs labour someplace idk
It also shows a degree of human selfishness, showing a much greater care for what is directly being shoved in our face which we hate compared to the comparatively more obscure abuse halfway across the world which happens to also being ignored or just not talked about
Yeah I guess I’m mostly frustrated at people calling for rights for people affected by AI when there’s been other issues that have been around for longer than AI has been mainstream.
if you dislike people who behave a certain way, regardless of what that way is (even if it’s just one thing people do that you don’t like), are you ever paranoid that you too act the same way?
i think there isnt anything wrong with focusing on something bad, even if there’s something worse
afterall there’s always going to be something worse since its subjective, an animal activist is going to focus on habitat destruction and endangerment of animals whereas a human rights activist is going to focus on stuff like you said
AI is just one thing that breaks headlines because it has immediate consequences to many people, whether it be ai slop ruining video platforms or it being used nefariously to generate CSAM or scam people, and its especially bad for the gaming community because of the age old ram prices
alright but if we had to care about absolutely everything at all times in order to be allowed to care about anything then we’d care about nothing at all

That’s the beauty of it, bro. They deposit the money into our bank accounts, week after week, month after month. They’re not even gonna know they’re being robbed. And then 20 or 30 years later, we walk out the front door like nothing even happened.
