im not saying anything about the magius minigame in particular, my point is its random as fuck and proof that vetex can and will always think of more stuff to add
the other devs are here now and the game is undeniably moving forward much more for their contributions! yet vetex still handles new gameplay features himself all the time. examples: crew behavior changes, shipwrecks, talents, note tomes, underwater volcanoes, npc gifts, renown item shops/factions. thats not an exhaustive list or even close to one, its a few examples. plus as you said he basically does a pass over any new content anyone else adds, in general hes the one in charge of finishing and fully implementing everything in the entire game, to say nothing of the visual revamps and crap he does entirely of his own accord. go look at hwta hes actually working on at any given time the facty is he very frequently goes multiple months without making any progress on story whatsoever because, there are other things in the updates .
tldr its cope to say vetex can or will work entirely or even mostly on story content
because i dislike red herrings heres my main point again: if the chapter 10 gets pushed into its own update it will get tied up with a bunch of work that is not chapter 10
i agree and we cant seriously think vetex is gonna handle NONE of that. moochezz is the only member on the team who does lots of work gameplay and content wise, and hes only one man
I donât mean it in a way that he would only work on the story, by focus I meant prioritizing story more than anything else. Even after full release thereâs less work for features that didnât make into full release and can be handled by other developers, for example would be enemy towers, dark sea archipelago, and island-specific items can be handled by moochezz, galaga, jtn, the builder team and modeling team. He could very well develop the board minigame by himself and yet it was moochezz that took the task and same goes for fleets.
To sum it all up, Vetex can prioritize developing the story unless the feature is too complicated and the other developers are busy with something else, letâs not forget that Vetex is self-employed but the other developers have their own life and donât plan on Arcane Odyssey being their main source of income.
maybe hell work on the story MORE in fact im massively hoping for that BUT weâve seen the other members of the team are not capable of doing everything he wants because theyve got other stuff going on and also theyre not the lead developers. game development has a very large number of unseen diversions and stuff and i believe that patterns weâve observed in the past will, for the most part, continue which is to say even when story is theoretically his focus he will find other things he wants and needs to do
Yeah thatâs pretty much what I meant by he can polish the things the other developers made, it takes less than two days or so compared to having to develop it for more than a week. He can definitely work on other things if it doesnât take too much time especially after full release, since apparently story would be faster to develop considering itâs mostly designing characters or bosses and making dialogues when thereâs no longer things that need to be built.
i think ur still slightly doing the classic cope of âno the road ahead is simple actuallyâ even tho it never is but it seems we like 80% agree so no point arguing anymore
Yeah fair enough, though Iâm only using his own words anyways. Compared to before, he can definitely focus on the story as what weâve seen in the current development patches (Daily quest, professions, fleets, animals alike, and islands being worked on by others while he was working on Chapter 8 and 9) followed by him stating that he would mostly work on the story after full release, so it definitely isnât coping when itâs supported by transparency in development.
contradicting myself and continuing to argue since i think ur touching on an interesting point:
the thing is i think the âtransparencyâ ur referencing is vetex coping. remember 2024 roadmap? its so easy to make something sound simple to urself yet the reality of making stuff is not quite as simple
I donât exactly believe Vetexâs words unless actions backed it up and as we can see in the patch notes where other developers worked on important features while he was working on chapter 8 and 9, it is somewhat more believable compared to him making stuff up with nothing to prove it such as the roadmap youâve said.
Hell I donât even believe weâll get a full release by December since heâs still deciding on whether chapter 10 should be in Full Release or not (Despite him stating he wouldnât in the chat because letâs face it, he change his mind a lot).
i dont see it the same way ive been reading those same patch notes yet hes spent a majority of his time working on other stuff because the other devs arent able to do infinite work. like for weeks hes been working on talent quests which another dev probably couldve done (aside from finalizing the bosses) yet they were probably busy or something. and there are many more features lined up so i think the pattern will continue
Well if youâre basing it on the recent patch notes then definitely he is working on other features, chapter 8 was finished by 1.17.124 while the important features handled by other developers during that time were duels, QoL, weapons, skills, gamemode, and so on. For chapter 9 it was completed by 1.17.213 while the important features handled by other developers during that time were adding or reworking npc shops, new brewable stuff, fleets, pvp toggle, more skills, animal stuff, new factions, daily quests, new islands, new chat system, and anything else I missed. These things took more than 8 months and safe to say itâs worth two updates while he was focusing on the story (Judging from this, the next update might actually take about 3 months considering the next chapters are apparently faster to do until the end of Nimbus Sea and most definitely the update would have at least two chapters).
We can already see the receipts that can support his words at the very least, so in this case itâs not Vetex or the players coping. What coping would be like is believing the full release update is by December despite knowing Vetex changing his decisions a lot of times over the course of almost half a decade of AO/WoMâs development. Legit this started to piss me off last year which made me quit the game, like what do you mean it would take a year for a single update when he promised us a bi-weekly or bi-monthly update scheduleâŚ
This poll feels pointless because weâre letting players decide when an update should release when thatâs something that devs should be deciding. People are always gonna want updates as soon as possible which isnât an inherently bad thing and I donât mind having more frequent updates, but how long an update should take to come out depends on what itâs adding and/or changing.
If devs are feeling burned out or stagnation because of how long an update is in the works, they should probably finish whateverâs left and release it. Otherwise, I think they should release an update whenever they feel like it provided they do thorough testing.
