There , of course, are ships with attachments and deckhands better than yours, but in ship combat the captain is more important than the ship, in normal combat items define how good you can get.

Anything that makes different types of ships more viable and so there isnt a one ship everyone should be working to get with 200 speed, 150 turning, 100 resilience, and 452,000 durability that has 90 cannons, 10 siege weapons, and 5 rams

Yep! Hard linear progression is the antithesis of fun.
Yep, which is why I vastly prefer ship combat. You’re more or less on an even playing field.
