I like to imagine that there are at least some intelligent, cultured Atlanteans. I think those guys would be those who embraced the mutations or something, rejecting humanity altogether.
I think perhaps the ‘insanity’ we see in Atlanteans may actually stem from the body horror they go through, the mental agony of seeing their bodies distort into something monstrous, knowing they will never return home again. Where they start to attack others out of fear, not being able to differentiate friend and foe, eventually resorting to cannibalism when it is the only way they can survive. That alone would likely make most people go feral.
Perhaps if someone knew of these mutations and circumstances and went “nah lowkey I fw that”, then I think they might be less susceptible to this ‘insanity’ effect. This probably isn’t canon, but it’s a fun idea to play around with.

There is also supposed to be a Siren queen and a quest from her to get a Siren crew on the trello in the dark sea section
