If you actually look around, there are loads of gunpowder barrel spawns around the north end of the bronze sea.
Those sub-islands added for full release are infact not useless.
They have stuff on and in them.

yeah ik, lots of em
every island enzior sends you towards has em excluding dawn island, but i just went to palo town instead since that also has clams + the barrels i can take back to frostmill when returning)
literally did 2 quarter master quests while picking up barrels and i went from level 27 to 52 or more with the majority being from the barrels

and the quests gotta have some story to it too, this game could take a lot of story ideas from One Piece ngl
I feel like this story questline I set up for enizor here is much more believable than “i need watermelons for the philosopher stone” lol
