Sulfur, a key ingredient in black powder (early gunpowder) is not found at the bottom of the ocean and thus would not be found on the continent, at least in copious amounts/concentrations, as it was raised from the ocean.
Additionally, the oxidizer in black powder, potassium nitrate, is not what one would call common.
This is excusing any handwaving like āahaha but explosion magicā¦ā. This is why guns as WE know them would not come. Not because they couldnāt forge them, but because the chemical propellant simply could not be made in large enough quantities to make the weapon useful.
