i think its less of color matching (neutral + iron works too lol) and moreso they just dont like the combination functionally

Explosion and Ash
Ash is a cool ngl
explosion+fire looks nice and has good synergy (biased because i use it)
Explosion has cool effects tho i donāt the color.
Still a pretty cool combo

I actually really like that combo.
My only grippe is how goofy snow and sand look with explosions
could do ice, that was my original combo before arcmancers came out and both had horrible arcmancers at the time so i swapped to snow
now that wind has great arcmancer, wind ice is good again
btw i recvomend atleast 50 range, 100 size, and 100 power for it to qork well, plus attack destruction and potency gems make it look cooler and show the impact of the magic to really bring out itās potwntial while not being too OP
