yeah just killing someone wouldn’t give you the curse by itself, otherwise we’d have gotten some lore tidbit about that by now
especially since curse users can’t die of natural causes

The thing for the killing to get the curse is the villains want to kill the hydra and then search for his curse

from a thematic perspective, why would really powerful people go after a curse that probably just makes you decently harder to kill?
if you had that many resources or whatever, you could probably just invest into finding other curses
if anything being able to actually kill the guy means the curse itself isn’t all that good from a thematic perspective
granted I have no context of this conversation nor the effort to check

also the Hydra was called that by people who had witnessed his power and told others, and decided “fuck it” and just decided it would be his nickname.

from another thematic perspective, nicknames don’t come out of nowhere
typically a nickname only comes up in use when attempting to mock someone, not simply by virtue of existing or a power

the exiled is literally exiled, him being in exile is a major aspect of his identity
with the minotaur it perfectly describes him and is more interesting than just saying “john mcnormal destroyed a town”, especially given they were infamous

someone being nicknamed “hydra” by virtue of just being hard to kill wouldn’t make sense on any major note
even if someone were to jokingly call him that, most people wouldn’t

The villains would want the curse because their dumb dumb heads think that they can create an army, while instead they’ll just get temporarily existing clones.

if they were to have enough resources to try to hunt down a nigh-immortal man then they’d probably know that’d it’d be a waste of time compared to hunting down directly strong curses
while curses are rare,
curse users probably aren’t particularly rare if one were to look for them,
anyone knowledgeable would probably know what curses are capable of

A curse can’t have the ability of multiple curses, a cloning curse can only do cloning, a magma curse can only make magma, a fire curse couldn’t make plasma.

technically that depends on what the curse is specifically
the promethean flame curse for instance had the properties of the other grand flame curses albeit weaker
but for the most part true yes
