Sure but ig it’s hard to balance ā€œthis is originally intended to never be changed everā€ with ā€œliterally everyone and their grandfather wants to be able to change this.ā€ From purely a gameplay perspective though it is horrid design.

Not really. He’s not saying that as in ā€œHecate is supposed to be miserable because it’s funny.ā€ He’s saying ā€œHecate is supposed to be miserable because magic changing isn’t supposed to be a desirable activity.ā€ This is 100% consistent.

I’d imagine this problem gets solved individually.

Imagine if powerful scrolls were sold for 100 robux each, everyone would probably go absoloutely bombastic. The case is true here also, paying TWO THOUSAND ROBUX to skip a potentially dozens of hour long grindr is pay to win, peroid.

What happened to ā€œnot wanting people to chase the metaā€? People who live and breath the game will still chase the meta, this serves only to fatten Vitebesk’ wallet.

Honeslty this just sets an even more concerning precedent for Vitebsk and the game, the divide between dev and playerbase is insane. ā€œIts expensive so you aren’t encouraged to buy itā€. Well guess what, t2 scrolls are expensive as well!

ā€œIf you don’t feel like grinding for hecate essessnceā€ - what, so there is now a prenium club of ao players who can just skip grindr with 2k robux? Whats next, sunkens for robux?

This doesn’t even fix the supposed ā€œmeta hoppingā€ issue, like I said people who live for pvp will jsut buy this anyway, it simply superficially reduces the problem whilst making vetex money.

Yeah because my goal isn’t to obsess over whether or not I fit into some stupid archetype.

@TheoreticalExistence ops on this? youre the guy i see talking abt hecate the most

this is funny as shit

No because this isn’t a 1-1 comparison. Powerful scrolls are part of progression, not part of a selection menu you get when you first spawn.

anyway gang you filthy magic monkies should have played warrior, i smell krill issue :poggers2:

That’s true, my point is paying to skip grindr sets a concerning precedent.

I do not want to start anything here, but i just want to bring up the fact, yes, fact. That the mastery mechanic for strength was implemented to prevent meta swapping.
And let me tell you something. It does not do anything but annoy people. If there was’nt a place like fort talos to grind it, maybe it would have meant something, but currently, you just change your FS, go to fort talso and grind for 20 minutes.

Magic just suffer from the case of ā€œlore consistencyā€.
Again, i dont want to start anything, but in my subjective opinnion, ā€œlore > gameplayā€ is not really fun when it screws your players over.

Again, i dont want to start anything.
And i want to note that i personaly NEVER grinded for hecate, because my files come and go, i dont spent more than 50 hours on them.

Yeah but this is known and considered a problem, not a good thing. Both the ease of swapping and the annoyance of the grind are considered issues that need to be fixed.

Magic is just cooked because it’ll likely be a horrible experience to swap regardless. Realistically you could give magic some sort of Mastery-like system as well but I doubt it’ll happen.

Acrimony if i remember was meant to be like essence right now, in meaning that it was stationary in dark sea, and supposed to be spawning on its own island.
But for convinience and unknown for me other reasons, he just made it be found in chests.

So why not make it like with that?
Instead of far reaches - 2nd insanity. And each time we level up, put it further to accomodate our level.

But oh well, if he wants to punish us for swapping magic, he decision.

I’ve seen this point and it makes sense but my response to that is in this case the grind is explicitly designed to be a barrier, not a natural part of progression.

I think this is why people tend to conflate it with other stuff. It ignores the context that magic changing was only really added because people wanted the option, not because it’s a path of progression that is intended to be arduous.

It looks a bit worse when put alongside Starter Pack but I think that in context both of those are fine. Starter Pack only exists after you’ve grinded your first file, after all.

I feel like the main issue is that the magic reset’s price is just really intrusive. If he wanted to discourage people from resetting every meta by making it too expensive to instead have people more locked in on magic builds, then I think that’s fine, but the price tag feels incredibly high for what is basically just a feature meant to keep magics from resetting all of the time. Most people are not paying $20 for this at all unless you’re either a child who just took their mom’s credit card to get a cooler looking magic or someone who doesn’t really care as badly about spending their money.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea to have a gamepass like this (vetex has to make money somehow), but this price just feels way too high for what the feature really does. Even if it’s still a bit much, I feel like cutting the price in half would mostly fix the issue especially since you need a playtime requirement still for the gamepass.

AO players need to get a job now to change magics :exploding_head:

I’d argue that the best solution to Hecate is probably to make it something that you can craft/brew and make the difficulty stem from actually grabbing different resources rather than going on a single monotone 3-hour trek.
