Some dislike him just because they want to dislike him, others genuennly do not agree with his prior actions and dislike him due to such (as example: openly insulting people that gave genuine criticismns to his work, banning people for such as well iirk, saying slurs etc).

Part of the community also just does not feel heard- and the magic change is a big aspect of such, mainly due to the fact that one can not try magics out prior to playing them (which makes making the right choice as beginner next to impossible) and all other fighting aspects being easy and quick to change (fighting styles).

Basically, if you pick a magic you do not like but want to play mage, you can dump the twenty hours or more you spend on a file into the trash- and such is frustating, at the very least.

Hecates essence is also hard to find/not all can spend that much time in the dark sea or are unable to do so due to bad optimisation, leading to further anger in such- and monetising it while refusing these initial options was probably the worst choice to solve this.
