This is probably not the case but I hope it’s a system for relations with different kingdoms. Like kingdom rep.

I never really thought of that that could be it and this possibly means the addition of the first kingdom in the game.
I imagine the Bronze Sea has to have at least one kingdom. Maybe it’ll be the last town we go to in the Bronze Sea, where we meet the person who’s going to help us get our first awakening. Kingdoms are such an integral part of AO and its story, they should be introduced early on.

I certainly agree with you the aspect of kingdoms in the game would be thrilling at least. And with the rumor of fighting kingdom ships in the game makes me even more excited.
Just imagine while exploring the sea you find a kingdom ship and an pirate ship battling each other.

Yeah that’ll be cool.
We do need more immersion in the game.
Imagine when you and your crew find a shark attacking you.
A part of their dialogue could be
“Watch out, shark ahead!”
Or a kingdom ship could be battling a shark.
Just imagine the possibilities of the vast seas. And with the dark sea being added just imagine mirages of islands you already went to in the story.
NPCs can tell you rumors of the dark sea through their dialogue and advice as well.
