Alot more people than WoM since it’s necessary for the exploration task exp, you’d be surprised at how many people just never knew about the Ashen’s Volcano secret.
Makrinaos is similar in secrecy at least and you aren’t desperate for exp at that point in the game

Im kind of ashamed of admiting that, but did you know there’s a secret? Im not kidding, i started playing WOM around, what, december? And only while playing WOM 2 i realised that in that corner cliff, there’s a secret passage hidden behind the bush. Theres like 2 chests in there, but its quite litteraly like a stone bunker.
That’s my issue with AO’s secrets. You HAVE to find them for 100%. But that just says “hey, there’s a secret, goodluck.”
But my genuen surprise of finding WOM 2 secret passage was like…“Wait tf? It exists???” THAT FEELING cant be recreated due to exploration system points.
AO does have a few things that are hidden that aren’t counted as secrets for exploration. But having the requirement to find them does sort of take away from the enjoyment of finding them slightly.

To be fair there is an NPC in Al Jahili that speaks about the riches of an old ship builder, but it doesn’t seem nearly significant enough to be the main secret of a major island

How many of you know that Nova clearlsight 4 can get rid of a fog?
This is mentioned NOWHERE, not even tips. But it exists

it doesn’t have to be a nova potion, regular burst with t4 will do
i kinda feel like ao’s map is too high substance, almost. the islands are just kinda too small, and at endgame, your agility kind of makes them feel really small as well. additionally, you can see pretty much the entire island before you get there, and that doesn’t really help.
one of the reasons wom worked is that the world really felt big, because you couldn’t really see all of it at once, and also it took forever to get from point a to point b.
but of course, ao isn’t an open world flat surface, it’s a sea game. what’s a sea game that’s very often praised for being immersive? …yeah, deepwoken. how do they accomplish this feeling? with few very large islands with lots of cliffs, and far different movement
so yea. this is kind of why ao might feel like its map just doesnt have substance, and why it is just generally not very immersive. the world, despite being very grand, feels very tiny
