Don’t get me wrong, I would never play AA. The training mechanic took so long, even me when I was like… what? I think 10? 13? Even then I thought: “Damn, I don’t got time for this.”
Bit more generic though, in AO you have the roman empire if they lived on an island, in AA you have a bunch of rag-tag collectives just trying to make it work in a disfunctional world.
In AO, pirates are just the randomly spawning bad guys who you get to treat like crap and beat up for loot. In AA, there’s all sorts of pirate clans, and a whole nation thriving off of piracy and acting like they earned it.
I agree, that is 100% a fascinating concept but that’s also due to the wars happening in the later seas that literally were ripping the seas apart.
The corsairs exist, we already know they have different branches but yes in AO, for now pirates don’t have much complexity because we haven’t reached later seas yet and the game is still being fleshed out.
i don’t think that’s what he’s talking about. i think the more appealing part of it was that the characters were more relatable, more personal. the forces at play you knew were people just like you, and people that you could become one day. in arcane odyssey this is not the case, the forces that be are powerful kingdoms with an abundance of politics and tension between them. you stand alone beneath them, rather than with them
this is kind of a derailment tho u might wanna make a topic for this
We already have Jaw Pirates and the Drachmae Pirates, Vetex just chooses not to include them unless it’s in the story.
Truth to that however when you have full release right now I’m pretty sure minor factions like that are not the major focus in a game where the other, much larger and important things like literal sea monsters, spells and entire new islands and story are more important right now.
Me think yes
I could not put up with the painful stat grinds if vetex reached the later portions of the game
Yandev salivating over those elseifs
5.5k ploygon toothbrush
This isn’t even that bad
. In terms of performance this would barely tank the game.
Is it better if he just used table lookups? Yes. And he has probably done it already considering this is an old gif
I’ve written worse, given how people actually can play AO, I’d say thats good enough.
Code is hard, cleaning it is harder.
Yeah this is the prettiest way, though it is pretty funny seeing people make these gifs saying that vetex is a trash developer for the most inconsequential things
I got bored, so heres the comparison between the “unoptimized” code with elseifs versus using a dictionary
Elseifs:
![]()
(0.000000476837158203125s)
Dictionary referencing:
![]()
It’s literally slower.
Not that it matters at all, though. It takes you 200,000x longer to blink than it takes for the elseifs to run.
moral of the story: be lazy you write more optimized code that way
u added an unnecessary if statement and called on backgroundColors twice, this’d prolly be a bit better
local backgroundColors = {
[“[Join Grand Navy]”] = Color3.fromRGB(0, 0, 0),
— etc (idk colors)
}
textbox.BackgroundColor3 = backgroundColors[textbox.Text] or Color3.fromRGB(255, 255, 255)
idk what the default color is cause it never went to the bottom of vet’s sphagetti code in the gif
for small code like this hardly matters but usually reflects there’s gonna be similar flaws in other more integral parts, im traveling atm so cant verify moochez’ benchmark but unless smth’s seriously wrong with roblox with that mant elifs it shouldn’t have been faster even with your version past like 60ish comparisons? im not a roblox dev so take it with a grain of salt tho i don’t primarily work with lua either.
regardless it’s still better to optimize for complexity or ease of updating code when it’s smth this small and tbh it isn’t that deep of a meme
“more relateable” they had ZERO character to them man
no you must understand we have to shit on vetex because he’s a bad developer! Nevermind the fact that he’s actually really competent and just has a very clear idea of what he wants! He’s awful at coding! Can’t you see the really ugly and long list of elifs that require an absurd 1/200000th of an eye blink to run! He’s a game developer creating a free product and that means he needs to do everything we tell him to or else he’s bad! Bad dev! Grr!
y do ppl just call freemium games free, you think he wouldnt make it paid access if it’d make more?
because i can join the game and play it with money doing utterly nothing
using ur logic disliking a fortnite update is stupid cause it’s a free game, a game being freemium =/= immune to any criticisms at all
nb4 “actually he’s a solo dev and that’s what makes him immune to criticism”
