Like the idea, though I might not be able to do footsteps, I’d have to search more for it. As for the limited visibility, there already is dark fog, but it extends far out so that when you join you can see mountains and other features from spawn. Making it smaller might just make it harder for players to explore and see the rest of the map.
Another thing that makes things a bit spookier is first person mode although I can’t use it for too long because it makes me dizzy. It changes things a lot when things that are supposed to be close to your character are also close to your camera and when you can’t see everything in your vicinity it’s less reassuring. It also might just be me but I think it helps with immersion.
have you made arrangements for NEKOSAIKOU yet?
You could also add blinking every few seconds. It works best in conjunction with first person mode for obvious reasons but it’s another one of those subtle features that enhances the vibe as opposed to less subtle stuff like making really fast and loud jumpscares.
All I could find was a pencil and weird green brick. I think the spirits introduced themselves before I could get a chance to see them.
I appreciate the ideas, though Im not sure I want to try and make it like a horror game. Its more of just a place to explore where I leave small references to things, mostly forum stuff (NightDemonLights’ “Shadow Realm”, Skhan’s IPhone, etc.). I have added some spooky stuff such as our lovely spirits who totally don’t eat souls, and I might add more, but I feel adding immersion with first-person and blinking, as well as increasing fog would take away from that exploration factor.
I’d like to formally welcome @SomewhatUnnamed to the Shadow Realm. Good to see you made amends with Skhan, I mean I would too if I was thrown into this place without a camp. Enjoy your new home, also don’t mind the locals. They aren’t the most welcoming…
AnUnamedBoi just greet the souls they are always happy to help
