If you’re worried about that use a different approach and/or different techniques actual pros use to save some time/money.
Use angles and backgrounds that can be re-used.
Go for the animatic route rather than the animation route.
Focus on what can be moved to generate “lots” of movement but really you’re only moving like two things (for example, mouth and chin while the face remains heavily static).
Do far-away shots or shots that don’t focus on someone’s face while talking.
Save the heavy-lifting of animation for important sequences, like an emotive moment for a character, action scenes, or any highlight of the episode.
I know you want to save time and effort, but while drawing you can get shots that you can actually aim for, AI would make it seems “good”, yes, but also lifeless. You’re still going to take time to get the prompt right and to fit it the way you want it to, might as well do it on your own.
i’d draw things in higher quality like once (a map or new character for example) then for the following scenes in some weird scratchy stick figure black and white stuff (just like the fight in episode 5 with Astijorin vs Selerichi)
AI is objectively bad and i will forever stand by that case.
it’s modeled after other artists online by stealing their works and never giving formal credit.
it’s also just real lazy.
“oh but i’m not naturally gifted!!” doesn’t matter. look at ONE, creator of One Punch Man and Mob Psycho, MASSIVE hits that both got animes.
it’s just a terrible excuse and it doesn’t even always look bad. there’s mistakes that no normal artist would make, and it’ll most certainly get hate because of “bad arguments” or whatever
it is, 99% of all publicly available models right now use art of other people on the internet for training and regurgitates them into one giant messy frankenstein that you see as the result
however at the end of the day it is your decision—words can only convince you so far
if art is ultimately just a means to an end for you then no one is stopping you from using ai, though i’d still recommend against it because:
it is extremely rigid and not easily editable
from what i’ve heard, generating ai generation is a very power hungry process, you’d need a beefy computer and even then it’d still take a long time (this also hinders the editing process by a lot)
what you see is what you get and it won’t always be what you want, ai is still a wip tool and i’ve seen more fever dreamy bullshit than actual animation (aside from that one princess diana meme on twitter or the ai movie that went absolutely nowhere to my knowledge)
of course you can go the route of only generating assets and animate them yourself
a lot of the points still stand, albeit to a lesser degree, but you might as well go through the entire process and pick up a few lessons along the way
or you can just put ACTUAL realistic goals for your series instead of ‘‘HEY, I’LL MAKE 60 EPISODES AND 4 EPISODES AN YEAR!!’’
ai is fucking horrid
your opinion does not change what AI imagery is objectively
THEN STOP SETTING UNREALISTIC GOALS FOR YOURSELF!!
and yes you can. because if you have enough PASSION for it, you will eventually do exactly that.
if you seriously wish to use a cheap and shitty way to ‘‘animate’’ then do it but its gonna come with a bunch of criticism and i guarantee you the only people who will actually like your product are losers who love cryptocurrency and are obsessed with nfts
you do not get to call that criticism ‘‘bullshit argument’’ when you yourself can’t fucking refute it
no i am not tired im just being crass because out of everyone on the forums i geniunely did not believe that one of the artists (unofficial, but whatever) supports using AI for making imagery and calls the criticism against it ‘‘bullshit’’
can you set goals? yeah, you can
just make sure they aren’t unrealistic and then you blame others FOR it
does the animation matter? OF COURSE IT DOES
but if you use AI imagery YOU WILL NOT IMPROVE
your art will probably get even WORSE
idgaf if you aren’t good at art, YOU WILL BECOME GOOD WITH TIME AND PASSION.
nobodys forbidding you. we’re criticizing you for using AI imagery that steals other peoples ACTUAL art and the fact you are doing nothing to refute our points apart from ‘‘OH… but this is how i see it!!’’ and ‘‘ok, but im broke and solo!’’
it seems you’ve already made up your mind anyways
if you’re gonna dickride AI that hard then made a series using those bullshit websites instead of actual talent and hardwork.
i feel like there’ll be someone who actually appreciates the storyline and i dont care too much about the audience
i don’t really care about that, all i care about is the end product (now that i think about it, due to the specific designs of characters and the fact i cant upload images as references i won’t use AI)
conclusion: i won’t use ai, but it’s not out of the goodness of my heart, it’s the practicality (i’m not good at describing a character’s appearance by words and i can’t upload reference images to ai)
A.I. “Art” programs are trained off of the work of real artists, and most, if not all, of them are done without their permission. They are quite literally trained off of stolen art, thus making what they produce somewhat stolen as well. If you want to make this so badly but can’t be assed to even try drawing it yourself, turn it into a text-based story instead of animation-based. If you at least tried to pick up a pencil to do it yourself, maybe some people would volunteer to help produce more episodes for you.
Even then, riding the A.I. Merry-Go-Round this much is going to look really bad for you; the only people who won’t laugh in your face before punching it are going to be the hardcore A.I. and Crypto bros, which you seem to align with nicely.
…aaaand i just realized you decided not to use A.I. making this whole reply more useless than the FurAffinity hacker’s crypto wallet after they took the site’s domain. Oops.
with an attitude like that nobody will appreciate it. if you really wanted to pour your soul into it you’d either practice till you get better with art or you’d find some better workaround than stealing art from geniune artists.
this is also kind of a shitty perspective. has nobody said that the thing that matters most is the progression? if the end product of anything is the only thing people care about then long shows like One Piece or Naruto wouldn’t have an audience, so seeing things in that light really makes it feel like less of a project you’re interested in.
if you don’t wanna do it then don’t do it. and who said you need to animate? draw a comic, there’s various free webcomic apps where people can become authors. it’d be easier because you draw less frames and it’d also probably be less time consuming since the frames are still.
you also wouldn’t need any sort of voice acting.
just find workarounds, not cheap scummy tactics like using AI which, again, steals from people.
i’m glad you’re not using AI but i feel like it shouldn’t have taken this long to get that point through, ESPECIALLY since you said you’re “not doing it out of the goodness of [your] heart.”
idk maybe i’m the one taking all this too seriously but there’s already too many AI Bros and sketchy users out there to have you added to their list. a lot of the time they don’t listen to reason and feel denser than a brick wall coated in beeswax.
Wow,that’s actually really cool!
I can’t believe you’ve made 5 episodes of 6 minute + story already. That’s actually inspiring!!!
Honestly, I would use AI so you can focus more on the story aspects of your series.
You can still use your main art style, but you could use the AI images and videos as background or filler so you don’t have to stare at a blank screen on the entire video. There’s quite a few moments of blank screens where you could very well put in some images so we can keep focus on the setting and context of the situation, like here:
It almost seems like the series is more for yourself to get an idea of your story. Like a animatic or draft of what you want to see in your series. If I were doing this, I would finish story first. Whether it’s AI or barely animated, then go back and give proper animations to the rest of the episodes completed.
