On the bright side with the Wotan part most people who play the game probably won’t know the stuff said by Vetex outside of it. Plus I wanted Wotan not to be a member so at least I have that. Vetex still shouldn’t have said it though.
Yeah you’re right about the bronze sea order not being handled the best. Vetex did say in the patch notes after empires that he’s looking the improve the early game experience for the player and I’m hoping that includes some dialogue changes to make things better. Obviously he can’t massively change things and stuff like how we find out about Calvus won’t really get much better, but I’m hoping it’ll smooth things out just a little bit.
I hope Wottan will be an actualy good written antagonist and not just “Yoo, i like war, so i research new ways of genoicde”
He’s only one going for dark sea afterall, so i have high expectations
Yeah I hope so too, also I still don’t get where people think that Wotan is committing genocide? Like he razed one town, which you know is still a horrific thing to do even in war. It’s also a really dumb thing to do, as I’d they had just taken the town they would have had a decent staging ground for the Nimbus Sea campaign. Which would be better than the Fenrir as a town like Port Mistral could have provided supplies and living quarters for soldier, y’know a choice an actual conquerer would make?
Honestly all of Vetex’s antagonist’s seem overly cruel with very little justification. Now granted historically vikings also razed towns, but they also settled in the lands they conquered. However it’s still a lot smarter than Nero who just destroyed an entire nation and country then just built a fort on it … Like what? You had the capability to conquer an entire nation single handedly, allowing you to take all those resources, land, and citizens for yourself and you instead just blew it up? How incompetent of a ruler and warlord are you?
I don’t know historically the vikings while monarchist, having rule pass down lineage and what not their citizens were pretty well off. We actually see this in game as it’s shown that Keraxans have the right of travel (that one woman who was visiting Ravenna.) Something not often seen in feudal or even tyrannical systems. I don’t maybe I’m just trying to make Keraxe sound cooler cause my main oc is from there. Overall if Vetex is drawing actual history Keraxe may be one of the most prosperous and functioning nations in the war seas. Granted it’s built of of truly horrid practices, but so is a lot of history.
Edit 1: removed unnecessary word
I mean not entirely wrong, though I wouldn’t use that term. I just like the viking aesthetic, and hate whenever any group from history is flanderized into barbarians or savages for the sake of plot. Basically I just want Keraxe to have some actual nuance, not to their reasons for conquest that’s obvious, land and wealth. Where I want nuance is in their culture. I want story tellers and innovators, if Keraxe is the largest and most war like of the War Seas, then they probably have been working on either new forms of magic combat or new war time tech. Overall I just want them to be doing something with their land and time unlike literally every other kingdom.
Tbf with magic at play any battle large enough and involving an entire city is probably bound to result in massive amounts of collateral damage.
Speaking on Wotan though I believe it has been confirmed he was around since before the Durza nuke. I think that will allow for him to have some pretty interesting stuff going on. Was he around during the war of the Gods? If so what side was he on? What was he doing after the war? What happened to him during the Durza nuke? What about the immediate aftermath? How does it, if at all, play into his motivations and behavior?
The point is Wotan has a lot to work with and Vetex has a lot of opportunity on his hands with this character. Given that he seems to be Vetex’s favorite at the moment I have hope he’ll turn out good. Though with that also lies the possibility of Wotan just being the “cool” character that gets it all, but I’m optimistic that won’t happen.
I mean tbf we did divert their attention from the actively burning town and probably had every ship at mistral trying to jump our ass. By the time we reached friendly territory / the chase ended, it was probably ash mostly.
