Honestly, hard to pick: purple because webcomic, yellow for pure aesthetics (I just think it looks best), and blue for nostalgia

no one ever uses blue
That’s odd, the general consensus is that blue is the most common while yellow is more rare. It’s entirely possible though that you see more yellow users by pure chance, however, so what you said isn’t automatically invalid.
This does make it seem like a coincidence, however.
There’s also the fact that the forums may just be a gathering ground for people who prefer blue, and the data may not actually be representative of the playerbase at large

As you can see, yellow lightning absolutely obliterated blue and yellow. It is clear that it is the best lightning color, and it should only be used. (unless you are a lightning water mage, blue is acceptable there.)

Damn I am actually impresed that purple isn’t winning and by quite far, the only times I actually see a lighting user it’s purple
