Has it ever been explained why Prometheus’ Acrimony origin/is named that way? Acrimony is a strangely negative word to use in an item that just resets your stats, especially since the item is a four-leaf clover of all things.
My theory is that Interchange is actually a pretty negative thing to get in lore since if you think about it, the stats in game are representative of your training/experience so Interchange basically just poofs all that away. Though, we as players can just click a few buttons to reallocate them, I don’t think the UI we have privy too exists in the lore meaning anyone who gets Interchange’d basically has their training shot back down to zero and they have to retrain all over again. (How this relates to old Prommy idk)
Or maybe I just missed some NPC dialogue somewhere lol
prometheus’s bitterness
prometheus sure would have a lot of regret after giving the world magic and then being killed by cursebeard
therefore it would be like a little shard of his regret that you can use to move all your skills around, making you regret your choices and do something else
in lore acrimony apparently isnt canon which i think is dumb, it should be a rare object that when ingested shuffles all your skills around into whatever areas you feel like
Cryo was the one who suggested the name to Vetex. He said Prometheus’ Acrimony was going to be the name of a volcano he was building for the Dark Sea before he learned all Dark Sea islands were going to be randomly generated. He reused the name for the reagent.
I assume “acrimony” references to the illness factor in the word since it presumably feels pretty awful to have all your progress mysteriously stripped away, though at least it can all be re-invested into something new.
It wouldn’t really make sense lorewise because there’s nothing stopping a career mage from learning how to wield a sword, someone who’s already mastered 3 magics doesn’t mysteriously lose their fists like you do in gameplay.
also I guess from a narrative perspective it would be kind of lame to have a prominent figure like General Argos suddenly decide he wants to stat reset his life’s work of strength and weapons training into a lifetime of practice with Spirit Energy.
I don’t remember too well, but it was going to have dark stone and either blue or white magma, and would erupt violently. Very generic. I’m glad the name got in for the interchange reagent, though, acrimony is a cool word.
