It depends on the situation tbh. I think itād be cool if the last mages died a long time ago with magic is being re-introduced in a more modern society and the conflicts it brings.
In terms of the meteors giving off different effects that could also have potential if some mages are still alive, like citizens going āWhat the hell?ā when they see people with a completely different magic theyāve never seen before. Maybe they could be treated as royals or perhaps they get witchhunted?
in this world, the people from the first meteor also made magic weapons however all the information to make them is lost (or maybe only possible for the first meteor)
iām not sure when the last mage (meteor 1) died in my gameās lore but based on one of my weapons planned, it has to be at earliest 1948 because thatās when a certain weapon was created.
the 1st meteor came at year 1016 and the 2nd meteor came december 30, 2023.
So i suppose it could be a mix of both options then, where society was used to a few mages across the world before they died some decades ago but then new mages get introduced by a meteor and people are shocked not only because thereās now new mages but theyāre a completely different kind
