2024 Roadmap Question

yeah same, don’t necessairly need the empires update rn, that could be delayed to the 2025 roadmap, possibly.

Empires is a huge concern of mine. PVP clans and pvp players are all going ‘woohoo!’ but the rest of us should be rightly worried. The guild update for WOM was so heavyhanded towards PVP that it basically chased every non-pvper out of the game. If AO is even half as bad I fear I will become incapable of enjoying the game.

PVP is fine when you want to do it, but having it forced upon you when you don’t like pvp is never going to leave someone feeling good. Clans need to have an option to separate the PVE from the PVP crowd. Some people will just want to engage in the farming/building aspects of the update without having to fend off a dozen or so other people.

Smaller clans, pve clans and solo players will probably suffer from the Empires update, because it will absolutely revitalize the clan scene, bigger and badder then ever.

The empires update mainly appears to be a pve thing that only pvp players can access fully. What is a guy in a clan who has 1k player kills going to want a farm for? If someone who actually wants a farm is in a clan for it though, they will just be killed.

Yeah. There’s only really two ways I see to deal with the huge problem of Clans.

One is to force clans to punch at their weight level, delete rewards for bullying clans two ranks or lower then yours.

Second is to separate Clans into PVE & PVP sides, which deletes any need to constantly readjust the pve and pvp sides of Clans

I had already had that feeling of wanting to leave out of the game when i was ganked practically daily when i still actively played AO.

Damn it I hate to see this… too many out of touch testers and players try to force their fun on other people and ruin the game for so many others.

I gonna have to adapt to a very different AO when empires come out :fearful:

There’s like legit 3 testers who actually do their job and everyone else is just because they’re in cahoots with higher ups :skull:

hope we get to warden by the end of the year :grinning:

Nah, I know the testers do help out a bunch, but many of them care more for balancing/testing pvp & magics. I know this only because in Patreon Vetex was very vocally… unhappy that testers let the glitch where ‘you cannot obtain the new spells’ slip through to the Dark Sea update.

I remember vaugely hearing none of them even found the dark seas epicenter, which is baffling to me because as a PVE player I know it only takes four, five hours at absolute worst to find it if you use a speed boat.

im just looking forward to building cool shit like castles and stuff

I am too! I just really don’t want to have to stop building every ten-fifteen minutes because other people want to just kill me for clout points. Well thats not even true, with building there will be a REAL benefit to stealing stuff from other people so you can grow your own things.

That is true I hope we can at least hire some decently strong npcs to act as guards to help defend the place, I think it would make sense to have defences so random dudes cant just run up to your base and destroy it with no resistance

There will be, but it’s always going to be a purely uphill battle for pve players who just want to avoid trouble.

the pve struggle in a (supposedly) pve focused game is crazy

I think that the longest thing to make for that is making a lot of different tasks so you don’t feel like you’re making the same thing over and over again

The Epicenter, none of them find the Epicenter.
Personnally I think they didn’t need to find it by playing but just fly around in free cam to see if it spawned. If they didn’t think of doing that I don’t get how they are still testers

I mean, they are the testers that let the surge+gel thingy slip through…**

I’m excited for the Empires Update because I think building bases will be super fun (as long as it isn’t as expensive as it was in AA :skull:) but I still wish Spirit Weapons would be added first as I see them as a more important feature.

And yeah, the roadmap seems pretty unrealistic for 2024. Each update would have to take an average of 2 months if they were to all fit into this one year. The Nimbus Sea Update is almost purely storyline continuation and it’s definitely on pace to take more than 2 months, so I fear there isn’t much hope for all of the next updates which will be adding big features like clan building and spirit weapons ALONGSIDE story continuation.

The Full Release Update is so massive, I’ve got to wonder if we’re even getting professions this year.

4-5 hours to find the epicenter?? Maybe but that’s if you assume you find it in 1 try (the odds are TINY)

Do you know how the epicenter spawns? It spawns ONCE per server when the server is made. ONE epicenter in the insanity 4 / 5 range. Do you have any idea how massive that is? I can guarantee if you randomly go into the dark sea to look for the epicenter you won’t find it. Even if you go near it there’s a high chance you won’t even see it due to fog and insanity effects. On top of having to repair your ship due to the waves, lightning and brigs with 50 000 hp

We’ve tested this with a speed boat build. It takes 4 hours to get into and then loop insanity 4, if you have clearsight 5 you are much more likely to see the epicenter as you sail, as long as you can keep roughly to the center of the insanity 4-5 range you’ll have the highest chance of seeing it. The things bigger then mount orthys, kinda hard to miss.

One of my epicenter crew has reliably found the epicenter multiple times with our more secret method though. In terms of atlanteans, you have a speed boat build so not even greatly armored brigs can catch you. Lightning will never deal major damage to you, and as long as everyones holding a ship attachment. Insanity effects don’t even come across my mind, just wear warding 5 gear.

It’s a huge time investment to GET ready to do it but once you lock in it’s more a matter of ‘how much of my day am I willing to burn for this?’
