(Before I start yes I did rename chapter 2 to 1.5 and make this one the new 2 because it’s an important plot point trust me)
A Decently Arcane Anecdote (Chapter 2)
Aaron Blight - Our main character, was a young warlock living in Redwake.
What do you mean we already have a main character?
Aaron Blight was a young warlock living in Redwake. They were a known user of Explosion magic and the Cannon Fist fighting style. When they were little, they heard stories of the great pirates that sailed the dark seas in search of treasure, and a certain legendary island. Now an edgy teenager, they are seen hanging out with their equally edgy friends in the abandoned warehouses of Redwake.
One morning they awoke to find the great oceans misted over, condensation sticking to the wooden boards he walked on. A chill ran through the air, a sign that something wasn’t quite right. The wooden platform over the great abyss felt unstable as if something below was moving it unexpectedly. If, for example, the weather was located in a picturesque valley, with the sun filtering through the fog onto a small waterfall, with the light refracting into a rainbow that cast against the rocks, the chill as ambient as the wind, you might have described it as beautiful, or at least calming. But this was different. Almost as if something had to go wrong, something went wrong. An expected crash sounded from nearby as if the jaws of death were closing in on Redwake, and our only just-found main character started fearing for his life.
Aaron ran to unmoor his rowboat and hurriedly manoeuvred it towards the source of the sound, a large part of one of the stone pillars had collapsed, luckily it was far enough away from the town to cause any real damage. Although through this pile of rubble Aaron saw splintered timber as if the collapse had hit a boat. Without any warning but this one sentence, Aaron was hit by an arrow infused with gravity magic. Yes, the villain has gravity magic. Yes, that is overpowered.
Aaron felt himself launched backwards with a powerful force, and immediately equipped normally grabbed his arcanium cannonballs, throwing them towards the source of the attack. Aaron was pulled towards the attacker, due to that gravity magic thing I was talking about, and then launched into the air. Using the power of God and Anime game logic, he launched himself up using explosion magic onto one of the currently intact pillars. The mysterious user of the unbalanced magic followed quickly behind. Now you might think “huh there has been a lack of dialogue in this chapter” so now I think its time for some dialogue in this chapter.
“Who the heck are you?” Aaron said, his voice wavering in his obvious lack of confidence.
The mysterious figure didn’t answer, so the chance for some dialogue in this chapter just got thrown out the window. Instead, the figure drew a dagger and attempted to stab Aaron.
Aaron, being a tryhard main character, dodged the attack and followed it up with his own explosive blast, knocking the mysterious figure off the pillar for exactly a split second.
Without being blunt about Aaron’s lack of capability, I would probably describe it as a fly trying to fight Theos the War Phoenix. And on the topic of his lack of capability, the mysterious attacker started trying to beat Aaron in hand-to-hand combat. Turns out the mysterious attacker is a savant, and Aaron is still losing to them. (Aaron prefers the zoner playstyle).
Now if you were expecting Aaron to die here, you would be wrong, I still need to make this chapter longer, instead, the mysterious figure leapt off the stone pillar never to be seen again. Apart from their appearance in a minute but ignore that for the moment. Aaron gasped with relief but instantly went on the defence, expecting to be attacked. After a while of just waiting there, Aaron decided to descend the pillar. Do not ask how.
Aaron returned to Redwake and continued his life being an edgy teenager.
Exactly 1 and a half weeks later (Due to a timeskip I suddenly decided to introduce)
Aaron awoke to find the great oceans misted over, condensation sticking to the wooden boards he walked on. An expected crash sounded from nearby as if the jaws of death were closing in on Redwake, and our absolutely terrified main character feared for his life. Now if you think Aaron is stuck in a time loop, you would be right. Possibly. Honestly, I do not plan these stories out. That day Aaron didn’t leave Redwake, instead spending it working for a local fishing company. And nothing went wrong, contrary to what my foreshadowing would have you believe. Of course, that means something has to go wrong as whilst walking home a huge meteor of rock hit his house. In a panic, Aaron saw his family scramble out of the rubble (Ok please villains stop making rubble at this point) and also saw someone leaping anime-esque from the sky.
And with that, the Villain returned.
Now you might expect an epic battle, but I seem to recall Aaron’s incompetence at fighting.
Yeah, Aaron got slammed into another stone pillar.
“Explosion Magic: Combustion” Aaron shouted, launching a beam of explosives at his attacker, who promptly blocked it with a large piece of stone.
The attacker launched a wave of gravity magic that was supposed to slam Aaron into the ground but being the second-most incompetent character in this chapter, they missed, and Aaron followed up with multiple strikes with cannon balls.
The attacker leapt upwards and kicked Aaron in the stomach, before actually slamming him to the ground this time. Aaron used his magic to create a massive pillar of explosive energy around him, at the cost of destroying the platforms he was standing on. Using the power of air-stalling, the mysterious figure launched multiple shockwaves towards the now-swimming Aaron.
You see Aaron had enough of this but decided that a crazed mass murderer who has no actual backstory (yet), shouldn’t just be let loose. Obviously meaning they would be let loose but we haven’t gotten to that point yet.
And Aaron was flung into the sky yet again.
“Explosive Exploding Explosion” Screamed Aaron, whilst exploding the explosive explosions.
Although you might expect a happy ending for our main character, the mystery attacker had other plans, instead slamming Aaron against a pillar and drawing his dagger.
“You interfered fool, now you will pay the price.” said the mysterious person.
An arrow flew fast and silent, towards the attacker. But due to my need to keep the mysterious figure alive, missed.
With a quick slash of the dagger, Aaron Blight fell.
Well, now that’s over let’s find a new main character.
Epilogue Crest was a hunter’s apprentice on Frostmill island, they were walking through the snow hunting for wild Wyvern Rabbits. Now Wyvern Rabbits, although they had no actual importance to the story, they had great importance to this story.
“Darude: Sandstorm” Epilogue whispered, launching some sand bullets at a Wyvern Rabbit.
Back in town, Epilogue’s boss, Guy (Yes that is his name) inspected the hide Epilogue collected from the Wyvern Rabbits.
“This is good, it will do exactly what we need it to do,” said Guy quietly.
“And what is that exactly?” Epilogue questioned.
“You’ll see” replied Guy.
And with that, the echo was heard.
(Once again any and all feedback is appreciated, the next chapter or two might take a while but I’ll try and write it at some point)
