New potions

These potions are in the idea of the Interchange potion, and will always come out “perfect” in whatever form they are made. My justification for them are either because its something useful for players for one reason or another, or its something in the vein of the interchange potion.

The reagents added work slightly differently in that they are applied one at a time and the effects are changed depending on the amount added.

NameBlight potion

Name blight potions are made from a decently rare plant drop called a Lethe Myosotis (way less rare than the acrimony). When applied, those affected now have a button above their character’s name in the Info menu, which will prompt them to change their name. Every instance their name is used will be changed retroactively. Nothing else is changed.

The recipe is exactly 1 Myosotis and the catalyst of your choice

The reagent’s name Lethe Myosotis comes from the river Lethe which in mythology drinking from caused one to forget their past including their name, and myosotis colloquially known as “Forget-me-nots”, I think you get the idea.

PastBlight potion

Similar to the name blight potion this potion can be used to wipe your stats (the ones in the statistics menu), and criminal history. A bit useless but it serves as a way to completely wipe your statistics if you really want.

Its made using 2 Lethe Myosotis and the catalyst of your choice

why the Blight potions?

Its mostly for flavor reasons, incase you wanna repick your name or wipe your stats for whatever reason. Its why its not uber-rare, its entirely cosmetic and honestly this could be a product for purchase rather than a potion, though i’d prefer the latter.

Primary MindFlux Potion

This potion uses an extremely rare reagent found only while diving in the dark sea, called the warped cordyceps, its rarer than a prometheus acrimony

When used it allows the user to change their first magic. When they click the button now on their magic section of the info menu all of that magics spells are wiped and they are allowed to rechoose.

You create the potion with exactly 1 warped cordyceps, and the catalyst of your choice.

Secondary MindFlux Potion

Similar to the Primary MindFlux Potion

When used it allows the user to change their second magic. all spells are wiped and they are allowed to rechoose.

You create the potion with exactly 2 warped cordyceps, and the catalyst of your choice.

Tertiary MindFlux Potion

Similar to the prior MindFlux Potions

When used it allows the user to change their Third magic. all spells are wiped and they are allowed to rechoose.

You create the potion with exactly 3 warped cordyceps, and the catalyst of your choice.

why the MindFlux potions?

Look I’m gonna be frank. Being able to change your stats is no different than being able to change your magic, and we should be able to do both.
Arguably changing your magic is even more useless because your build could not even use any magic at all, which means it just changes your energy bar color. plus lost magics are coming which are replaceable.

There should be a potion that changes your magic, if we can change our entire build including our awakening which is a STORY IMPORTANT EVENT, we can change our mostly story inconsequential magic choice.

I still wanted to make changing your second and third magics harder, since that’s a choice you make after you better understand the game, so it requires more of the reagent.

For those who would say “why don’t you just make another slot”, sometimes it isn’t worth the effort of starting over just to experiment, and some would rather have their current character who holds all their money an items rather than make an entirely new slot, have an alt or trustworthy friend transfer all their items slowly, and grind from level 1 up just to have a different name.

Plus in a game where magics can be buffed or nerfed pretty bad, especially in regards to builds such as conjurer or warlock. It be nice to pick another one instead of having a dead slot.

you can change your 2nd Magic when you reset stats via awakening, I reseted my Savant and it gave me a chance to change my 2nd Magic, though I still picked my previous 2nd Magic

Then some magics will just rarely be used, i think 1st magic or names should be able to be changes. Game tells you that those are permanent choices, i like it that way even tho i dont like my first magic: ice anymore.

if some magics are rarely used, that seems more like a problem with the magic than not being able to rechoose?

why is it the players fault if they get stuck with a bad magic.

yes SIR

If you dont have what you like, you like what you have

I don’t think the nameblight potion should be a potion because it thematically makes no sense, I wouldn’t mind a magic nametag or something with the same droprate. Though maybe changing your name should be easier than finding a rare drop, such as by going to Silverhold and shilling some galleons (the navy is the law which is why you have to pay to change your ingame legal name). I don’t know which is better for a cosmetic change that we only find important because it’s like that in real life: a rare item or paying money.

I like mindflux potion. Not much else to say, though I think changing the color of your energy bar as a non-magic build should be easier.

I feel like maybe MindFlux should be more reagent for the lower tier the magic is. 1 for third, 5 for second and 10 for first, since firdt of all its a bit of a big deal and second second magic can alr be reset woth acrimony. But O really like all the concepts tough!

well it would be a nice potion for extra QoL stuff, but i have a question

isnt cordyceps that one fungus that turns ants into zombies?

yes cordyceps is a fungus that takes over your mind, get it?

its a distorted fungus that affects the mind, instead of the brain its your Magical Mind, which is how magic is “acquired” in arcane odyssey, spots of the brain called “minds” that people are born with.

Lore wise its a dangerous fungus thats been so overcharged with the magical pollution of the dark sea, that its mind altering properties when brewed can directly alter a mind, something normally considered impossible.

Now keep in mind, the logic here is the same as magic skills when you have a second and third magic.

Its a higher skill requirement to gain skills your first magic had when its on your second and third magic.

A person picking their first magic might not have any clue over its effectiveness in action. So i find it fair that changing the first magic is the easiest simply because its a baseline.

Also just requiring 5 or 10 of that is pretty insane, since The material in question I want to be about as rare if not more rare than a Prometheus Acrimony. The 1 - 2 - 3 logic is that its already rare enough, and having 3 of them on you is a feat.

I didn’t realise using stat resets you can rechoose your second (and in turn third) magic, but my point still stands.

Your first magic should be the “easiest” (in relative terms), since the general assumption is that a player might have zero clue how it functions. While by the time of your second magic, an especially your third, you would have encountered most other types of magic through npcs and such.

Your second magic is something you choose wisely knowing almost everything about the game at that point, your first magic is something your mostly in the dark about in regards to everything else.

another idea i had for a potion using 3 lethe myosotis was a HateBlight potion.

HateBlight when used it removes your rival so you can get a new one. Though im more inclined to make it so you have to hit YOUR rival with the potion as a gel or burst.

Eh… do you really need to make changing your rival that difficult? I think it would make more sense if you could remove your rival by buying something from Silverhold which will let you execute your rival instead of letting them get away. No need to make players find 3 of a rare ingredient.

Also that implies that rivals are permanent and can’t be removed or changed, which is something I wish I knew before getting one. Hopefully that doesn’t matter in the future.

yeah it probably could be easier. though unfortunately I doubt such a method would be implemented separately since overall the rival system has no real purpose aside from giving some flavor to the world. Since barely anyone cares about rivals in the first place, there is no substantial community demand for a way to change them.

Though high level rivals reward good stuff like legendary treasure charts and enchanted items when you beat them. Its got almost no bearing on the plot or even just the general gameplay experience since 9/10 times you have to be the one searching them out.

This is also why I didn’t include it in the suggestion, felt beyond the idea of what a potion should really do, but I felt like throwing it in replies incase people do like it.

I think that for rival reset potion it could just be, instead of using 3 very rare ingredients, using a special catalyst, maybe?
