Vetex would’ve just said “roadmap” instead of “2024 roadmap”. People expect it to be followed by vetex because he made that roadmap and basically says to the people like, “Yeah, I could do all of this in 2024!” Like I know this is primarily a one man operation and I kind of expected vetex to do like half of it, but people can be literal and expected to be at vimir sea rn.
So yeah I think vetex could’ve just phrased it better to not warrant such response, and people should be aware that it such expectations should be read with a grain of salt
Nope, I still disagree.
Hecate essence, as it currently is, would be ass even if I could run through the dark sea islands and oneshot level 2890 atlanteans with full invulnerability.
You’re still walking around ungodly large islands searching every nook and cranny for a 1/12 chance that maybe there’s a tiny speck of dust somewhere across the entire island.
They need to appear more commonly and have a better indicator.
ngl, this post is enabling the very behavior that’s pushing me away from this game and community.
“It’s ALL the community, not vetex. you gotta understand, hes a solo dev, game is early access, he’s this, he’s that…”
being a solo dev does not absolve your game from criticism, being in early access does not absolve your game from criticism, going through a crisis does not absolve your game from criticism. Just because there’s other external factors that contributed to the current state of this game (e.g. depression) does not make me in the wrong for pointing out serious issues in arcane odyssey’s development cycle and current gameplay.
Infact, the dude that mentioned “vetex set our expectations too high” is spot on. The port mistral update was literally marketed to be this hyped up thing with a trailer, nice thumbnail, and everything (even though i knew it wouldn’t be just based off the patch notes). Yet we’re still the problem for expecting better??
This very attitude pushes away any potential for community growth through new players. only gatekeeps.
I kinda forgot you had an account here tbh anyway the whole editing and thumbnail thing i didn’t think i’d get myself into but here we go.
You are a youtuber so you must know but thats just really how people want to advertise their next big update if the thumbnail was otherwise low quality and half assed new players would be less inclined to play AO to begin with.
Vetex’s intention was not to mislead people into playing his game his intention was to advertise it at the best quality he can.
i agree with a lot of what youre saying, disagree with some of it
this is completely true, ao has some major design flaws that vetex hasnt addressed and thats fully on him
while it doesnt absolve criticisms of the game (depression obviously doesnt undo the games issues, especially since many of which have been present since wom), i think that given the context of ao’s development, the only part of the rocky development cycle this year that i think is fair to criticize is vetex’s decisions around the balance team docs, and vetex making and then scrapping kingdom alignment instead of focusing on more important features
(which even then, given the mental state he said he was in at the time, i dont blame him for wanting to work on a refreshing new feature as opposed to spirit weapon skills, which lead to him having to deal with community expectations towards vitality builds, balance team criticisms, and the numerous bug fixes he’ll have to do given how pretty much every other attack turned out)
youve been playing vetex’s games for a while, id know, ive been watching your videos for a while now, and i feel like you should know what to expect given his track record at this point, especially you directly said you read the patch notes
if you were anyone else, someone who isnt so active in following ao’s development, id totally understand seeing that trailer on your youtube feed after such a long wait between updates and being disappointed when you play the game to see so little added content, but you knew exactly what the update was gonna be, im not gonna pretend mistral was a good update, because it wasn’t, but if there’s anything about it that should disappoint you the last thing should be that it set your expectations too high
i wont glaze vetex here, i have my own gripes with ao’s development and the game itself, but i just cant feel that vetex’s development cycle is a worthy criticism outside of the perspective of someone whos purely a player of the game
i feel like its worth keeping in mind that ao is a pretty big mmo being developed by vetex and a team of mostly artists, with only one person really helping with scripting, this has literally never worked out for any game, look at something like cube world, or hell, vetex’s last 3 projects - you can criticize vetex for even trying this given its already failed for him 3 times, but since hes releasing updates for free, and the only ways to pay him are gamepasses which give exactly what you expect, and a patreon which claims nowhere that its proceeds will lead towards development of the game, and then donations, which are in extremely small amounts (2000 robux in devex rates is 7 dollars) i dont think its right to feel entitled to anything
I dunno if it’s just me, but I feel like a lot of things as of late have been disappointing. From video games (like TotK) to political happenings, to more personal matters. Chat, is this just me? Am I just a depressed doomer?
While I am a little sad that the 2024 update thing was not met… I am pretty happy with what we got overall! Asides from the weapon wipes! But that was uncontrollable I believe…
AO is a hard game for sure so good for vetex for sticking with his passion and pushing through the last couple of years (Its almost the end of 2025, wow!)
i think you go over some good points here, but how you go about criticism is crucial. it’s not helpful at all to say “fuck you vetex shitty game hecates essence is terrible etc etc” but you’re more likely to be acknowledged maturely if you’re being mature yourself “i think hecates essence spawn rate is too low, especially considering the size of the islands in the far reaches”
a lot of the criticisms i see on here have valid points but just go about it for doom and gloom or whatever and makes everyone (intentionally or not) feel more negative
