From my knowledge, Savant is definitely the most versatile of all the classes, but also the hardest to use.
Savants are the most unpredictable out of all the classes if the savant user knows what they’re doing. The sheer number of different ways to allocate your skill points and still be a savant makes it so one Savant may have a completley foreign build to another.
Not to mention, after the update and stat potions will be added, savants will be able to reallocate their skill points with much more freedom and versatility within its class, enough to completely change one’s playstyle should they feel like it. (This is assuming stat pots don’t reset your awakening).
Savant is not without its flaws, though.
Savant has a rather overwhelming playstyle. While Savant users have access to a shit ton of moves, it may be a struggle actually using all of those moves.
Not to mention, savants, while having access to the most amount of moves in the game, would also be locked out on any of the late-game stuff pure and hybrids have access to.
While being a jack of all trades, they are also masters of none, so they will only be able to utilize the lower tier stuff, even if they have so much more of that stuff.
Not only that, as a savant, the player would basically be required to use their overwhelming arsenal to their fullest potential. While they do have the most versatile of all playstyles, they also need to be versatile to get any more use out of their class than the run-of-the-mill mage or conjurer.
Cycling between 5 to 7 moves gets the job done for any other class, but if a Savant does that, they’d be better off simply not being a savant, and going with more easily manageable classes (as in literally every other class in the game).
As a savant, focusing on only some aspects of your build actively gimps you out on the usefulness of Savant, as only using a certain part of your set while neglecting others just makes you a watered-down pure or hybrid build. Using the overwhelming amount of moves available to your fullest extent is necessary to be a good savant. Otherwise, you’d be infinitely better off going as a hybrid or pure.
Not only that, as of right now, the ideal savant would only have access to old weapons, and the AoE on old weapons are absolute dogshit, so you’re best off using guns and a ravenna greatshield for your weapons options.
This doesn’t mean Savant as a whole is a bad class, however.
While Savant is probably the hardest class in the game to effectively utilize, it will most likely have a huge payoff once the level cap is increased, not to mention they already have access to the most synergies in the game at the first awakening (assuming you go over 100 strength and less than 100 magic. 100-100 on each makes you a warlock because of the 40%/40% split, even with weapons having the other 20%. It’s dumb, probably a bug, and will hopefully get patched).
It has the lowest skill floor and the highest skill ceiling, and the most skilled players would find benefit in the Savant class, especially once the level cap increases. It has potential to be the best class in the game, perhaps more so than the 4 vitality builds.
“A Jack of All Trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.” It would be really cool to see Savant prove this quote true.
Those are my thoughts, anyway. Any other opinions would be appreciated. I like getting proven wrong, after all.
(unless its over something incredibly dumb, in which case I feel shame)
