Allies in your party should display smaller/less/no visual effects for you.
In situations where PVP-ing is disabled because something is meant to be done together (Fort Castrum), the same also applies.
This can also be a toggable option in the menu.
Reason to add/change
-This should be able to help allies easier distinguish enemies’ attacks from allies’ attack, especially considering how chaotic and cluttering things can be with multiple people around
-Also reduces the amount of frame drops from the massive amount of VFXs, especially for low-end devices
One problem with this suggestion, I’m pretty sure all of the lag is from the server’s side of things. Hence why you being somewhere else on the map from Fort Castrum can still lag you. So in reality, unless your PC is literally a potato PC from 2008, this’ll accomplish nothing beyond making it easier to see.
If you’re PC is genuinely lagging whenever you say, launch a bunch of large blast spells. I’m sorry, but if your PC is that bad, then the problem isn’t the game’s optimization, but your own PC’s hardware underperforming. In fact, I’d be surprised your PC is running AO if it struggles with that. The effects of AO aren’t real time particle effects, they’re decals, aka images. I think the only thing you can argue is different are the skills.
no, i’m pretty sure a lot of the stuffs wouldn’t lag if they didnt have massive amounts of particle effects
people’d do fort castrum and i’d be fine as long as im not near it, the only time i ACTUALLY lag is because of the visual effects at least 10 npcs and 3 players are spamming at once near me
explosion magic is kind of a prime example of how you could still have a good pc but STILL lag
i believe we can all agree that even if you have good optimization stuffs or a good pc, the game can still run terribly when too much visual effects are involved
Test it then. I guarantee it’s the destruction causing the lag and not the particles.
I believe it goes like this with what you’ve told me…
Rendering un-destroyed land is no different than rendering destroyed land. Regenerating destroyed land also doesn’t cause too much lag as far as I know.
Rendering un-destroyed land being destroyed still requires your client to process the land being destroyed. Meaning the burden isn’t just on the server, but you bear the burden as well so you aren’t standing on floating air.
I’m of the opinion that skill effects aren’t the issue. If they were, you’d lag outside of Fort Castrum as well.
I don’t think you’d lag until they hit and destroy something, which is usually the case in AO. This is also 13 potential sources of environmental destruction that you mentioned.
not a fan of this
gives a good advantage to parties that team when compared to a person doing a fight alone in PvP. For situations where there is a 1v3 (which is possible to win by yourself), this would be a further and larger advantage to the teaming party of 3 which is furthur unfair.
