[ABYSS SEA] Log 01: Special Ones

Everyone’s heard of Martin, Shura, yadayada. Being in charge of documenting EVERY dangerous encounter when it’s just the same thing over and over and over again. It gets repetitive really quick.

Which is why I’m making this personalized log. It’s a small snippet of all the interesting things or phenomenon I’ve seen/heard over the past few months.

“Angler Squid”

  • Encountered in Sameria. Among the 7, 6 of them were killed by the atlantean. Guy had to recover for 1-2 days before he was able to report the situation.

  • Second, third and fourth encounters are not worth noting. The fifth encounter was lost in the mountain of files…

Now this, this one was an interesting one. A hybrid between an eel, and octopus and a screwed up face. They all describe it having a round head with eyes shaped like shattered glass fragments and two (Update: Seven. Reason: Further mutation.) anglerfish bobbers. It has this weird habit of pushing its mouth(?) up, forcing itself to smile.

Most of the encounters describe it as friendly? Well it’s docile at first, hell one of them even pet it. If anyone ever decides to break anything around it, it will become aggressive. It will contract its face into the back of its head, revealing three octopus beaks.

Pretty cool right? Too bad it’s blind and deaf while in that form. Turns out it’s sensitive to magic energy, but even then those that it can sense are strong enough to stall it. That last survivor that encountered it first? Turn’s out he’s a retired centurion from the Ravenna Realm.

“Gillers”, “Gill Screechers”, “Blood Noise”, “Curdlers”

  • 85.recorded.cases. Everywhere in the War Seas.

I had a personal encounter with one of these. People from across the war seas all have seen some variant of it, hence the multiple names. If one gets reported, expect the next few documents to be associated with them.

Atlanteans can evolve in strange ways. A theory of mine is these ‘Gillers’ failed to mutate into a land creature, causing whatever that thing is. A defining feature they have would be the gills covering the mouth all the way to the neck.

What the hell do they do you ask? Simple. Bleed their gills out. All they do is try screaming but since their mouths (and vocal cords) have likely mutated into gills causing any vibrations to injure the atlantean severely. They tend to bleed themselves out if given enough time.

Now I would say it inflict mental damage over whoever sees it, but it does way more than that. Sharks are sea creatures. Atlanteans mutate into sea creatures. See where I’m getting at? One fresh bleeding corpse attracts the attention of anything that has developed the smell for blood. Just so happens that the ones it attracts are either super weak or can destroy buildings.

Phenomena:

Carnival of a Thousand Lights

  • It’s only sighting was during a thunderstorm, those from Sanctuary 9 to 1 witnessed it.

Now I don’t know which sicko decided to name it the ‘Carnival of a Thousand Lights’, because seeing it was a bad omen. To put it lightly, everyone who wasn’t occupied with something else witnessed what they describe to be “A thousand lanterns out at sea!”. I just so happened to see it for myself at the time.

To know something that big is swimming in our sea is… demoralizing. I can only imagine the reason why there’s no other logs about it is because no one survived an encounter against it.

Golden Lilies

Recently someone brought to the table an interesting item. A bouquet of golden Saint’s lily. The person behind this bouquet was not found.

After the most talented alchemist on our turf brewed it, we tested it on an injured man. The healing effect was outstanding, seeing a hand growing back in real time was gross in my opinion though. When we asked if he was alright, he remained silent.

(Note: Patient ‘Saint’ has not awaken from their ‘Enlightened’ state after 2 months. The golden Saint’s lilies require further testing.)

I woke up and saw something big by the entrance of my door. It’s an atlantean. It’s just standing there, watching me.

I compared its appearance to the reports available to me. It’s that thing from Palo Town. I will not be coming out of here alive.

Honestly, seeing something that isn’t an aquatic creature calms me down slightly. I guess I’ll just draw it from a distance.

There was a person who walked past the door while it was blocking it. Looks like they were covered in emeralds, like itself. A virus through- blood stain -

I think I’m- blood stain -no- blood stain

The rest of the book has been torn apart. Only these pages remain.

His last drawing remains lying there, waiting to be picked up some day.
