I love the idea of World News, but I feel like the current number of articles is too little to keep it interesting, and some events that should be featured in the news aren’t there.

Article Types

Navy Base Overrun / [Clan] Overtakes [Navy Base Name]

These would ideally replace the generic Island Capture articles when a clan overtakes the Navy Base in a sea. It feels weird to see the Agora treat the capture of Silverhold like it would with any other island being claimed, hence why these are here.

The recent surge of crime across the [Current Sea] is known to many, and the Grand Navy has been unable to keep up with it. The organization’s influence has fallen to the point of another clan, [Clan Name] attempting and succeeding to overtake their base in the [Current Sea], [Navy Base Name]. The name of the [Clan Name] member who claimed the base is [Character Name], and the Navy has sent reinforcements from across the War Seas to apprehend them.

With the surge of piracy within the [Current Sea] becoming too much for the Grand Navy to handle, a relatively new organization named [Clan Name] has taken advantage and captured their base of operations, [Navy Base Name]. Tensions have reached critical levels because of the claim, and the Navy is currently sending reinforcements to arrest involved members of [Clan Name].

The Grand Navy’s influence has been withered as a result of rampant piracy and crime across the [Current Sea], to the point of its base of operations, [Navy Base Name] becoming vulnerable. A member of [Clan Name], a rising name across the War Seas, saw this and used their strength to capture [Navy Base Name] in the name of their clan. It seems that unknown structures are being assembled on the island, but it is unknown if the clan’s grasp on the base will remain long enough to complete them.

The Grand Navy Reclaims Their Base

This would show up when a clan loses control of Silverhold. It would result in a Bounty increase of whoever claimed the island.

As of this publication, the Grand Navy has currently regained its grasp on their stronghold of the [Current Sea], [Navy Base Name]. The clan that took it over, [Clan Name] had it under their control for [number of in-game days]/less than a day, and all in-progress structures set up have been demolished. The [Clan Name] member who overtook it, [File Name], is now imprisoned.

This will show up instead if the player leaves the server.

A Legendary Fishing Trip

This would appear if the player catches a Legendary Fish or Sunken item within the War Seas. I like how finishing a legendary Treasure Chart shows up in the Agora, so why not having lucky catches here as well?

Fishermen across the War Seas have been scrambling recently over a recent catch made by [Character Name]. Just yesterday, a sparkling object was snagged on their fishing line, and after reeling it in, had discovered that it was an incredibly rare [Fish Name]. Golden fish such as these are invaluable to chefs for their meat and alchemists for their scales.

A recent catch made by [Character Name] has struck fishmongers across the seas into a frenzy. While [Character Name] was waiting for a fish to bite their fishing rod, they caught a heavy bag, which opened to reveal an odd, but ornate piece of armor/weapon. The item is made out of the magic-conducting metal, Arcanium, and had its properties changed by spending decades in the magic-polluted sea.

Skilled Captain Returns to the War Seas

This headline would appear when a player makes it back from the Dark Sea after spending at least one in-game day in it.

Upon hearing about the dangers lurking beyond the War Seas, a thrill-seeking adventurer, [Character Name] took it upon themself to explore the Dark Seas. Just yesterday, they returned, sharing their discoveries of mutated abominations, magical weather, and treasures unthought of. The sailor advises those looking to explore the Dark Seas to improve their combative potential if they want to survive.

Legendary Captain Finds the Epicenter and Lives!

This would appear if the player reaches the Epicenter in the Dark Sea, then makes it back to the War Seas alive. It could probably result in a huge Renown increase, although it wouldn’t make sense for Bounty players. I feel like just surviving a day trip in the Dark Sea would be worthy of an Agora article, and that’s especially true for Epicenter journeys.

After hearing about the supposed existence of the Epicenter, the center of the Dark Sea, a captain of rising power named [Character Name] set out to find it. After weeks, they managed to come back despite treacherous weather and monsters to tell the tale. According to them, the Epicenter is a giant obsidian wasteland, with the mind-breaking magic of the Dark Sea near its peak. They brought back pieces of rock from the area to prove their journey’s worth.

As I said, I love the idea of the Agora gimmick, although events that should either be taken more seriously by the news or events that warrant their own article just don’t get enough in my eyes. Why is the Silverhold capture article the same as one of the generic Island Capture readings? Why do Legendary/Sunken fishing catches get server-wide messages, but not an Agora article? With these, more major events would help keep the Agora interesting and break up the monotony of the same articles more effectively.

The only thing I see that there might(negligible chance, really) be an issue with is the articles about the Dark Sea stuff, since in canon people don’t really go into the Dark Sea(or so I’ve been told).

Otherwise, solid idea.

I’d say this would also need stuff for towns. For example, if you go to Palo town and demolish 20 houses, currently it has no real effect, except lowering fame. So I think it would make sense if it said stuff like
“[town] destroyed by [playername]”
Maybe also add the circumstances under which it happened, for example if the player was fighting against pirates, assassins, kingdom NPCs (like in Ravenna), Grand navy random spawn ships and gn notoriety ships.
For example:
Huge battle in Rubica
Yesterday, Rubica was badly damaged in a large standoff between the criminal Rueben Stone and a Navy force dispatched to arrest them. In the battle, the town was badly damaged. In the heat of battle, many houses were destroyed and the grand navy promises to pay for the damages.

This would make sense, yeah. Especially considering that we get similar articles when inclement weather like tsunamis destroy a town.

Shining Plains Levelled In Brutal Showdown

“Late last night, loud explosions and rumbling could be heard in the direction of the Shining Plains. Upon going to investigate, locals could see [playername] in a vicious duel with renowned Ravenna martial artist, Lady Carina. Sadly, the noble Lady was defeated, and [playername]'s whereabouts are unknown. If it weren’t for the battle-scarred landscape they left behind, we wouldn’t have believed this story could be true. Where could [playername] have gone? And what will they do next?”

Some stuff to do with story events, like my example above, would also be nice.

I’m not sure about story events, since it would make no sense if such thing happens 30 times. There is just one noble under the name of Lady Carina, but maybe it could work as something exclusive that the player can read after completing the part of the story, since we shouldn’t be spotted doing that stuff anyways. But seeing some letters that you may have stolen from a member that mentiones the disappearance of Lord Elius, death of general Argos or something similar, it could be good.

this is so peak

you could make it so when you get back form the epicenter you would get a lot of clan/guild (i forgot) infamy

“Man tries to sell things to broke merchant, get’s scammed because merchant took items without paying.”
feels like this should be an anekdote

I don’t like having to either reset my reputation or server hop after I catch a legendary fish since I like having a grey color username, other than that, the rest are pretty fine ngl.

Never said its article would affect Renown. A lot of the ones already in-game don’t do that.

Oh, thought it would considering getting in the Agora that mentions you directly would affect your reputation ngl. Such as beating a sea monster, saving a lot of castaways etc.

It also explains why doing things such as takeovers as a clan wouldnt give you any reputation. That reminds me, I gotta test if having your clan mentioned would give any infamy…

It doesn’t.

If people didn’t go in the dark sea there wouldn’t be so many atlanteans

You cooked. My only thing is that story events should not cause news articles. Don’t want to give out spoilers to new players, you know?

Most of the Atlanteans out there were already there in the first place. The Dark Sea’s rains mutated them into what they are now. This is in the lore.

Another thing: The Dark Sea covers most of the planet. You could never match up the number of Atlanteans out there with the measly number of humans that live in a Sea Cluster.

Yeah, personally I think it should be more of a story thing. For example, know that board in the brig’s cabin that has the info on the Order of Aesir, but currently serves no function? I think it could be cool if, after certain parts of the story, you could get some letters, news articles etc. connected to the Order.
“Fort Talos attacked
Two unknown criminals have yesterday broken into fort Talos. The way the did this is currently unknown. It seems that the attackers were after the renowned Ravenna general, Argos, as he was killed in a fight. The fortress is currently under repairs, as a large part of it collapsed in the aftermath of the fight. The perpetrators are still being searched after.”
“Hailed be, High Lord.
I speak to you regarding the recent events, mainly the death of my fellow baron, the dissappearance of one of our trusted officers as well as our batallion that was wiped out on the sky islands, whose leader has possibly betrayed the order. I fear that they may be hunting us. These deaths and dissappearances cannot possibly be a coincidence, seeing as all of them were great fighters. I suggest we take action as soon as possible, or the entire operation may be in danger.
-the Baron”
Some of these may appear automatically when you complete the story part, and some may be obtainable just like journals are. That way it doesn’t interfere with new player’s storylines but still shows that our actions didn’t go unnoticed.
