This thing was a problem since WoM due to intense desync. It was a bit fixed in AO, but everything gone wrong with addition of muskets and pistols.
AO’s pvp litteraly turned into aim simulator, yeah. I started to see people just spamming muskets and pistols with beams at 200+ atk speed without any other sources of damage. And this shit becomes more frequent. If that won’t be fixed, then high ranked pvp will fully turn into a basic shooter.
To be more correct - I am adressing two problems:
Client Sided pvp, cuz you cannot know when to parry or block due to desync.
Almost instant projectile’s weapons.
Personally, I know atleast two people, who lands atleast 9/10 hits by pistols, muskets, beams and etc. And due to attack speed meta, they can outdamage you most of the times due to such attacks having almost no endlags or startups (except beam and musket’s skills).
I do not really understand why muskets exist in AO in the first place, since it doesn’t fits ingame’s age. Pistols are too simple for now, you can litteraly reload them while they are unequipped.
As a solution to these problems I see next things:
Client sided pvp probably stays, since Vetex said that server side will be worse. So parry/block mechanic will clash with desync forever.
Muskets and pistols should get more complex systems to make them harder to use or atleast avoid their frequent spam.
Beams are unfixable, it is an all times meta that will stay, but atleast it’s can be punished.
Probably some individuals will say that it was planned this way and everything is okay. Aim should make you pvp’s monster. But in this topic I will count these words as a bait, since people who says that are either trolls or do not understand that there are tons of different classes with different playstyles, that utilize different mechanics. But all of that diversity gets outclassed by one simple aim route.
It is easier for me to kill a bunch of metal mages, than to defeat one wind conjurer with fast projectile’s weapons like pistols, muskets and etc.
The invention of firearms dates all the way back to the 11th century, and AO takes place in the mid-19th, a time in which their likes already had long since surpassed other means of murder.
Though, here’s a thought: Since you can’t change how fast a gun shoots (unless you use magic), wouldn’t it be better for attack speed to only decrease their reload time (I totally expect this to be overpowered as well but it’d have a higher skill floor)?
People underuse potions a lot. Weak Waterbreathing is good when your fighting pirates on the sea. I also use gale potions to make high jumps and to blow other players away.
imo amphibious bloom is something i get passively with no real way to get it without going out of my way to farm for it so i dont use gales except for emergencies
also yeah youre right, but it could be because throwable potions’ aoe is too small, has gravity acting on them after like 10 meters, has 0.25 second endlag and slow projectile speed
the only ‘viable’ potions are either drinkables or gel (youre not going to hold a fort, so no using cauldrons
That falls under the “going out of my way to farm for it”, which isn’t something people want to do in video games.
And either way, diving spots and underwater structures are incredibly boring to farm.
