This would bring back the old ammo system, but with a few changes
Details/background on your proposal:
The default ammo types (normal arrows, regular cannonballs, etc) would be infinite, while other ammo types remain how they are now, whether it be for weapons, ship cannons, or Cannon Fist.
Reason to change:
This would bring potential for more ‘special’ ammo types like smoke arrows and such, without people having to worry about running out of ammo.
First off, never rate your own suggestion.
Second, the issue was never “running out”. If anything, it was the opposite. Players had so much golden bullets and arrows, the highest-damaging type, that they didn’t need to use normal or silver bullets. Because why use weaker alternative if you can use the stronger one?
I didn’t really care about silver and golden ammo that much; i mostly made this suggestion so ammo types with effects (poison, flaming, rocket arrows, etc) could get added in the future.
If ammo is brought back (probably never) then I do believe they should be changed to have both upsides and downsides rather than being a straight up buff

I often sell rare canonballs for quick cash, and every single time I somehow end up with millions of those 5 seconds after
I literally did not have to worry in the slightest
theres no point when its adding objectively better ammo, and anything else thats truly special like smoke or explosive ammo could be turned into a weapon skill instead
