An Apocalypse Villanelle

I must ruin this land
Introduce an apocalyptic crusade
This is the world I demand

Power none can withstand
My conviction cannot be swayed
I must ruin this land

An apocalpyse at my command
A primal demise begins to invade
This is the world I demand

Nothing could be as grand
Meteors, fire, and tornados cascade
I must ruin this land

My flame must expand
Destruction and death become a parade
This is the world I demand

No one could understand
An unavoidable fate impossible to evade
I must ruin this land
This is the world I demand

Should have included an edge warning, sheesh. Yes another apocalypse bringer poem what a surprise, this time in the form of a Villanelle. Before you ask “what is a villanelle?” here.

A villanelle is, from what this google article I found says, a poem comprised of 19 lines and 6 stanzas. A villanelle follows an ABA ABA ABA ABA ABA ABAA rhyming pattern (all A’s have to rhyme, all B’s have to rhyme). Additionally you also have to repeat line 1 for lines 6, 12, and 18 while and line 3 for lines 9, 15, and 19. All while having those repeated lines carry some meaning, which I personally think I failed by kind of “cheating it” since they don’t really add to the poem itself but, well, repeat what I said but eh, maybe I will retry this. I have to say it was tedious though, after all there are not a whole lot of words that are like “demonstration” and have literally a million god damn rhymes

I don’t think this is my favorite poem nor do I even think it’s good but I did spend like 2 hours writing it. Since I was mostly working on the structure the actual poem itself is rather lackluster and is just a wholehearted expression of my eternal edgy desire to see nothing but the demise of the world.

Like with all my other poems I didn’t really proof read all that much, I did make sure to do it here a bit more since I need to make sure my lines are correct, but I am tired and my eyes hurt and I may have missed something, so fucking murder me for that because an eternal slumber would make me less tired.

Overall pretty mid imo but hey I hope someone out there likes it

Standing here
I realize
You are just like me
Trying to make history

But who’s to judge
The right from wrong
When our guard is down
I think we’ll both agree

That violence breeds violence
But in the end it has to be this way

I’ve carved my own path
You followed your wrath
But maybe we’re both the same

The world has turned
And so many have burned
But nobody is to blame

Yet staring across this barren wasted land
I feel new life will be born
Beneath the blood stained sand

I’m more of a The Only Thing I Know For Real fan myself

to be fair, I am in fact a red sun enthusiast
