An Essay on the Transmutative Properties of Magical Energy

Most understand what magic is. A powerful energy that some have access to due to their unique Minds. This energy allows for the summoning and manipulation of natural forces and elements. This is something every person knows. What we have only understood recently is that this energy does not create, merely transfers and transforms. Alchemists, and mages have been working tirelessly to understand the nature of magic and through experimentation have found a law of the universe that not even magic is able to break. The laws of conservation of energy and mass. These are the laws that govern the use of magic.

Magic is energy that is gathered in the Mind and then released using circles, or long ago directly from the soul. This energy transforms into whatever element a mage is genetically predisposed to. While this is fascinating on its own, the true miracle of magic is that not only can it transform energy. As seen with lighting, light, shadow, explosion and so on, but that it can also transfer energy into mass. This is seen in some of the most powerful magics, such as metal, glass, plasma, even paper and ink. However what many haven’t considered is that this form of magic is truly a complex, yet intuitive form of… Transmutation.

Anyone (unlike magic) can learn and study transmutation. Those who are true masters of the craft use it to imbue energy into inanimate objects. This is most commonly known as enchantment. What magic does is rather than using ambient energies, often resulting in random if powerful enchantments, creates pure elemental constructs of force from the mental energy of the mage. From a simple blast or explosion, to partially transmuting one’s self into their magical element (aura spells.) All magic works off of transmutation.

Thus the following question occurs, how far can one go? If magic is mental energy given form, then could one use other things for fuel? Now please note, this essay is not supposed to be used to create weapons of mass destruction. The world is ruined enough as it is. This is merely a presentation of a hypothetical use of magic, that as I have seen has not been practiced. However, experimentation has shown that one can use external matter as energy for magic. Instead of building up energy in the Mind, one could again hypothetically inverse their magic to instead of transforming energy into matter, transforming matter into energy. Or in the cases of matter magics, such as say sand magic. One could transform matter into different forms of matter. In fact certain mages already do this, fire, plasma, and even explosion all work by converting the atmosphere around them into their particular form of energy.

This could have disastrous consequences if a mage of sufficient power were to do this on a wide scale, which is why I strongly advise only using this idea on a smaller scale. We don’t need people turning cities into sand. However on a smaller scale this could be useful. Light mages simply evaporating buildings that needed demolition, water mages creating new rivers and irrigation systems, and earth mages creating fertile soil for farmers. The applications are infinite.

In conclusion, the use of magic as a form of transmutation could if handled correctly create a world of plenty the likes of which we’ve never seen. I imagine that one day we may even be able to clear the Dark Sea of its pollution, even raise new islands from the sea for humanity to live on. We have the power the god’s used to create our world, so let us work together and create.
