Any Northwind experts here?

Tried out this game called Northwind, cool, now can someone please teach me the basics so I can commit genocide

when in doubt always shoot first

use a crosshair software / tape and mark the center of your screen for quicktapping

I started playing it once… stopped when i kept on getting killed

(Sort of) Northwind veteran here, had been playing since long before the game actually existed, back when its predecessor was alive and kicking (it was called The Northern Frontier, it’s a dead husk now).

Easiest way to make a lot of money is on Isle of Rupert, which sounds bizarre due to it being saturated with PvP but hear me out.

Three things you can do:

  • Hunt: Idk what hunting proficiency you are, but there’s plenty of deer, wolves, beavers, foxes, and a ton of rabbits everywhere on Rupert. Most of my hunting runs just involve doing a big loop by swimming to Henry’s Hill from Plains of Abraham (only do this if you know what you’re doing), cutting over to St Paul, then heading towards Forrester’s Grove before turning back, getting home via Joe’s Junction, and then entering JB from the back side (least trafficked part, fewer spawn campers).
  • Mine: Requires good smithing proficiency (but if you don’t, it’s a really good way to level it up anyways). Really thicc ass iron mine in Bear’s Maw/Roy Cave which isn’t that far from JB. I’ve never been shot going down there and I made a killing selling the iron I smelt from there. The strat is to just mine enough iron so that you won’t be overencumbered (drop unnecessary crap like excess bandages if you feel greedy), then haul ass to St Paul to smelt it all, craft items, and complete the contracts from the shopkeep there. The only threat you’ll run into is the singular bear that spawns in the cave. If you need to kill it, just cheese it by staying on the edge of the cliff and shooting it till it dies. There’s also wolfram and other ores down there, so once you get enough proficiency, you can basically craft high-end rifles and other guns for free.
  • Hauling: Simplest but likely least rewarding of the three. Just head on over to St. Paul and talk to the cook for all the contracts. Take all the contracts that reward more than 10 pounds each, because if you take one that offers less than 10, you’ll end up with a net negative since you need 10 pounds each to purchase a crate of supplies. Nothing else to say, really.

But if you want PvP tips, here’s what I got

  • High ground, high ground, high ground. Oh my goodness it’s so refreshing when you’re able to see the bigger picture of what’s going on. Players who PvP in groups are always in vc, so they’ll overwhelm solos with good coordination. High ground lets you break off engagements whenever you want to, observe what the enemy is doing, and oftentimes leaves your opponents guessing where you might pop up next. If you got really high ground, you don’t even need to risk getting looted after dying because it’ll take too long for anyone to climb up there. TL;DR: exploit the terrain.
  • Gear: You need your musket, a pistol, a melee, and about 30 musketballs (in ammo pouches of course) and 30 bandages. That’s the basic loadout that everyone follows. If you don’t have these supplies, craft bandages for free from flax plants found on shorelines (buying them is a waste of money). James Bay Cave has lead ores you can mine. St Paul’s shopkeeper has a lead ball mold that you can buy to craft musketballs for free over a campfire. If you need weapons, get them from Cantermagne. DO NOT go back to Beauval, it takes forever to return.
  • Avoid groups of players. The game’s PvP experience is unique because you basically only get one chance at killing someone before you’re left completely defenseless and have to suffer through a long reload. You shoot both your musket and pistol, you presumably hit both shots, and you kill one player as a result. Then you have to run your ass away from his teammates, who will promptly revive him and continue the chase. You get the problem.
  • Ambush. If you’re being tailed by someone, find a way to make them lose sight of you (this can be as easy as just ducking behind a nearby rock). Don’t stop running and don’t look back. You need to let them assume that you’re unaware of their presence, so they won’t realize that you’re waiting for them as part of a trap. Once they get within what you think is acceptable distance, pop out and waste em.
  • Shoot first, ask questions later. This is a big problem new players run into. NW playerbase is the least trustworthy on Roblox. Never assume that strangers have friendly intentions. Never. Keep an eye on everyone you come across and I mean it. It’s pretty easy to tell if someone is following you, and if they are, they want your ass. Even if they appear friendly, don’t take your eyes off them until they’re out of sight (I literally passed a guy who said “Sup?” to me once, and when we walked by each other, he tried shooting me in the back). Remember, there’s no penalty in killing another player whether they were friendly or not. It’s only when you start looting them a bounty is placed on your head.
