AO end times are here

vimir 2024 :broken_heart:

hes a ####ing politician, like he wants to piggyback off of AA being a staple of 2010s roblox and WOM being an extremely good demo so he can play around with making a game and also going places with his education

not the greatest or most healthy way of doing so, with old and new players surrounding the game, but i kinda get it? only kinda, its all munted in reality

now we in the second half of 2026 and we’re halfway into nimbus…

  • AA was a nice gem, it was truly personal, it was rather primitive in functionality but it was rather old.
  • WoM was an awesome demo place with the lack of story being its biggest strength, some things were janky when it was still active.
  • AO is a feature-crept mess with an overly boring linear story with worse performance than a large connected landmass (WoM)

We’re not getting Vimir until 2028, the fact that these updates take MONTHS to create is stupidly unnerving, and that they have to create Jotunheim, which is theorized to be a GIGANTIC island, significantly larger than even Sameria.

Me watching as my pc combusts into flames trying to load in Jotunheim

im kinda suprised it took vetex only 3 years to make early access ao

aside from the fact jotunheim is in the vimir sea, i dont know what else is in there  imo that’s a bit pessimistic, we do only have a few chapters left until the nimbus sea + bronze sea backtrack + rainspire and a few others so maybe by early-mid 2027 it could be in development or a small part is released

There was a lot less to worry about gameplay-wise during EA than FR

It is not in development, and no, a small part of the island won’t be released.

You’re missing the fact that they like to release updates in a “finished” state unless heavy time crunches occur… and that a few content updates would likely be between now and Vimir.

Man, I’m still seething over them releasing FR when the game was very much still in an EA state.

i didnt mean a small part of the island, a small part of the vimir sea story (just how nimbus released) if jotunheim will be one of the first islands we’ll visit as soon as we get there(I HOPE NOT), then i understand your point of it releasing in 2028

do people forget AO was made on WOM’s code? i dont remember how majorly its impact was, but iirc most if not all of it was transferred over for it, aka TOTAL GAME REVAMP, the update that killed WOM and its killer wore the skin of it till it rotted away and brung out the mess that is AO

Releasing Vimir Sea without jotunheim is like having ice cream without the ice… or cream.

It just doesn’t make sense, it’d give barely any players and once Jotunheim does release, less players will want to play it as they expect that the previous result is all that Vimir had.

my laptop already struggles with just loading in the nimbus sea, and my graphic settings are already set to minimum :frcryin: if vimir ends up being worse im ditching AO for AR

AO is still using WoM’s code, hence the 7 year old code statement from a bit ago.

StreamingEnabled might help most players, as its one of the most important optimizations in game development… that Vetex has never used in any of his games.

But, of course, he fucks that up too by setting the minimum radius before it starts showing Level of Detail models to be 400 studs instead of the default and recommended 64 studs.

oh cool, i was right

I’ve been seeing this for about a year now: Vetex’s game design philosophy just doesn’t work. There’s no cohesion in what he adds—and that’s been the problem in every update, and it’s the reason why no update has ever felt good. Arcane Odyssey isn’t a directed, intentional game, it’s moreso a cluster of “oh, it’d be cool” features packaged into a singular experience.

This, I think, is the inherent problem behind designing a game in updates instead of making everything and publishing it once. The original design vision is gradually lost. A well-known example is this problem can be found in Minecraft, where Mojang has slowly but surely lost the idea of what the game even is, and has steadily added less and less in fear of disrupting their already-compromised vision for the game.
