This is great, a simple way of explaining what we currently know about magic.

i think soul magic was real shit like teleportation and cloning but with modern magic you can only shoot fake fire, fake water, fake lightning, and other fake elemental stuff
soul magic was just regular magic but without casting circles, which was damaging to use
i can teleport in return i fucking die
no soul magic let you do fancy stuff like teleport, clone, basically generic wizard shit. in return you only live until like 40 if you use it too much

this is directly from the lore doc
it says in the second line “Magic in these times came from the soul, which took its toll on the user when used too much.”
then "In the present day, wizards summon “Magic Circles” that produce their Magic for them, which is far less costly.
there is no implied difference between the magic before circles and after, so it can be presumed that they’re the same, elemental magics we have now.
but also presumably it’s stronger magic if it takes a toll. as an analogy if you get something for free it’s gonna be lower quality than something that costs like 400 bucks
spirit weapons will presumably have special abilities unlike anything else but consume the soul (or game-wise your healthbar)
it takes a toll because your soul manifests the magic, not the circles. magic with circles makes the circles do the work, and without them your soul has to do it instead.

you can check it, it says the ideas for what primitive magic can do might’ve changed meaning one of us is gonna be wrong but we dunno who. it would be nice if vetex or tech could directly tell us who’s right but that wouldn’t happen
sadly not vet nor tech spoke there, so it means nothing
if you really want to you can scour the internet for info on primitive magic and see if one of us is right or if we’re both wrong
il just be content with staying unsolved til more stuff comes out
