Doom V
Roran sat down on a chair in the chieftain hut of the Darksong Village, in his thoughts. A rumbling shook the village a few minutes ago, and he could tell that it came from down below, where Marua resided. He felt a sensation of pity and helplessness. None of the Doomarians were mages and stood no chance against Marua’s shadow magic. Not even Roran, the strongest and most skilled warrior in the village could defeat him before his mind was corrupted. It had gotten to the point where the village depended on foreigners to take out their former chief. Roran knew the fight the three noble mages were going through was rough and rigorous. The wind mage had already tried six times to defeat Marua, and each attempt was futile.
Now that there were three mages, the corrupted staff’s reign would finally be uplifted. And even if it was…to Roran, the victory wouldn’t be fulfilling.
Minutes later, he heard some voices from outside. He left the chieftain’s hut and walked through the village to find the source of the commotion. He found himself in front of Lucien and Marianna carrying Augustine’s arms around their shoulders and dragging his body.
“W-What happened?” Roran asked with a hint of worry in his voice.
Lucien and Marianna looked at Roran with a look of despair in their eyes. Roran saw their expressions and knew…that nothing good can come out of it.
“We…we…took the staff from Marua…” Lucien started. Suddenly all of the dread from Roran’s face vanished away.
“A-Amazing! You actually did?”
“Yeah…but…he died. A rock fell on him and crushed him…we couldn’t save him.”
Roran stood speechless for a few seconds as he hung his head, processing what Lucien had just said. “…curses…I thought all we had to do was take the scepter away from him, and he’d go back to normal…now he’s dead…” he looked up “…regardless…we’re thankful for what you’ve done for us. Marua’s dark influence over the village has been affecting us, and now it is finally over…you all are free to stay at Darksong Village as long as you wish.”
Lucien and Marianna look at Roran in gratefulness as villages rush in to tend to them.
The next day…Lucien, Marianna, and Augustine were on the shore of the Island, ready to depart.
“Oh, shit…Oh, shit…OOOH, shit. We finally did it, Y’all!! We finally did it! We defeated Marua. Seven times the charm, ay?!” Augustine waved and danced about in the sand.
“He died…he was a good man inside…” Lucien gloomily stated as he pushed the rowboat into the waters
“Whatever, he was too deep in if you ask me.” Augustine dismissed.
“So, Augustine, are you really going to join us?” Marianna asked
“I mean, I need to get off of this Island somehow…I don’t know where the fuck my rowboat went…besides, I’ll need some sidekicks for when I become rich and a-famous.”
“Ri-ight…”
Lucien pushed the rowboat into the sea, and sat on its end “So…where will we go?”
“I don’t know…uh, Mavist Island? Orange Island? We could go to your hometown, Eve Island, Marianna.” Augustine brainstormed.
“For what reason? It’s not like anything is going on there.”
“…”
While Augustine and Marianna conversated, Lucien saw Roran who had travelled down from the village to the shore. “Roran…”
Roran looked at them all round, then started “Again…the people of Doom Island…especially Myself…thank you for what you’ve done for us…in return for your efforts…I’ll give to you the most prized weapon in Darksong Village.” He kneeled on one knee and held out a one-handed sword with a pointed tip leading down to a curve at the back of the blade.
“OOOO…me likely,” Augustine reached out with his hand before Marianna stopped him “Let Lucien have it.”
“What? Why? I’m the one who was on this island for a week straight!”
“But who’s the one that destroyed the scepter?”
“…”
Lucien took the sword from Roran’s hand, and the hilt grew a black tint when he held it in his hands.
“The spirit of Doom Island is imbued into it, it is said that only the protector of the island can use its full power. Marua used it, and it was passed down to me…but I think you deserve it more…”
“…Thank you…”
“Great, now this guy has two slashing weapons. Are we tryna make a swordsman here or a wizard?” Augustine muttered.
“Do you all have a route you’re headed for?” Roran got up for all of them to slowly shake their heads “…well…I have a friend at Savaria…Reese. He’s been writing to me about frequent sandstorms happening on the island…you all are sort of peacekeepers, right? Perhaps you can go there and check out what’s been happening there, and say Hi to Reese for me.”
“Savaria? That trade Central? Pfft, ok…” Augustine crossed his arms.
“Savaria…ok…we’ll go there.” Lucien decided
“I appreciate it…it is west of Doom Island…and it’s the largest Island in the First Sea, so…you can’t miss it.”
“Thank you, Roran.” Marianna concluded their conversation as she and Augustine climbed onto the rowboat
“And Marianna…I can row the boat this time…” Lucien grabbed onto the paddles.
“Oh…ok…heh.”
And so, Lucien started pushing the rowboat, and the three of them left Doom Village with Roran waving at them in the distance. Lucien had fully accepted that this world he had found himself in was real. Everyone around him was, and he knew just how valuable life is, and after witnessing death he wanted to make it his purpose to preserve life
