Arcane Adventures: Book 1: Chapter IX - Time to Go

2 Days Later

~William’s POV~

Whoosh!

BAM!

The ball of spirit energy flies past me and hits the dummy, blowing it into pieces. Pax walks over to me and sits down right next to me.

“Alright,” he says. “It’s time.”

I look him in the eye. We were supposed to fight Marua yesterday, but Pax wanted to practice with that medallion for a day.

“You sure?” I ask.

“Yeah.”

“Alright, don’t kill yourself.”

He nods. We read about the dangers of overusing spirit energy in that guidebook. Push himself too hard and he could get himself killed.

I grab my sword and we walk along the pathway towards the entrance.

~Pax’s POV~

Be careful when it comes to using spirit energy. It is not like magic energy where using too much results in severe fatigue. Use too much and you will die.

The warning from the guidebook comes to mind as I walk towards the cave entrance. I look at the medallion around my neck. It’s built similar to a large locket, a simple chain made of small links looping through a ring attached to the medallion that is wrapped around my neck.

Every time I use the medallion, I feel something drain in me similar to whenever I use my magic. But instead of just feeling a drop in energy, I feel like something deeper in me is drained. And to be honest, I’m a bit scared.

I pull the dagger from its sheath. Theos had shown it to me on Newground Island when we were practicing.

“This is a magic dagger,” he had said. “You can channel your magic through here and the magic energy within this dagger will power it with your magic. Oh, you can do it to any weapon, but the magic energy in this will make it easier to do so.”

And now it’s mine.

“Hmm,” I mutter to myself.

“What is it?” William asks.

“Nothing.”

I look at the dagger closely. Something I had read in the guidebook comes to my mind.

Imbduement is the art of harnessing magic/spirit energy and channeling it into an object, be it your arms, legs, or a weapon. It requires focus and intent to achieve this feat. Those who have are known as conjurers or warlocks. Those who imbdue spirit energy are known as juggernauts, knights, or paladins.

My eyes narrow as I remember what it said.

“We’re here,” William says.

I look up. We’re at the entrance to the cave. 2 sets of doors cover the hole.

“Just open the doors and walk right on in,” William says.

“Wait,” I say.

William looks at me in confusion. I direct my attention to the dagger.

“Just a sec.”

He steps back.

Oh well. Might as well try it while I still can.

I focus and call upon my magic energy. I concentrate, directing my magic with my intent to charge this dagger with energy. The dagger begins to glow teal as lightning magic flows into it, assisted by the magic already inside it.

Fzzrt

I feel a small drop of energy as electricity enits from the dagger. I feel satisfied as I lift up the dagger and examine it. I smile.

“Wow,” William says with awe.

“Alright,” I say. “Now we’re ready.”

~Marua’s POV~

I hear the footsteps of two humans. I stand up and look at the entrance to the room.

That puny boy’s here again, and he’s brought a campanion this time.

Pathetic. Kill them.

I laugh maniacally.

I raise the staff and prepare to fight.

One more time.
