Later that day
~Pax’s POV~
Me and William sit next to each other on the training field. His blond hair waves in the faint breeze as he thinks about what I said.
His arms are somewhat bulky and there are calluses on his hands. His eyes are a dark green and he has a scar on his left cheek.
“So let me get this straight,” begins William. “You want to help me fight Marua, the village’s former chieftain, and defeat him?”
“Yeah,” I respond.
William goes silent for a few moments.
“Are you fucking crazy!?” he yells. “You said it yourself! You saw what he did to me! And you want to risk your life to help me beat him?”
His words shock me. Isn’t help exactly what he needs to defeat Marua. So why is he so pissed off about my offer to help him?
~William’s POV~
Hear me out.
It’s not that I don’t want help. I really do. But Pax doesn’t look like he’s ready to face Marua. And if I can barely escape with my life, what chance does he have.
“Listen Pax,” I say. “It’s not that I need help. You just don’t look like much of a fighter and I’m worried that you might get killed.”
He looks at himself before looking back at me, looking pissed off.
“And what makes you think that?” he asks.
Oh gods. If looks could kill. And why does the air feel charged?
I choose my next words very carefully.
“Listen Pax,” I begin. “I’m not trying to offend you, but please stay out of this.”
He goes silent for a few moments.
“Want me to show you something?” he asks.
I’m confused.
“What?” I reply.
“I’ll take that as a yes.”
And he turns to one of the training dummies and raises his hand.
~Pax’s POV~
I raise my hand and aim it at the dummy.
Focus.
I feel energy fill my arm as I channel my energy to my right hand. Right in front of my hand, a magic circle forms out of thin air from electricity. It’s ready.
I fire a ball of lightning at the training dummy.
BAM!
The training dummy is sent flying backwards in pieces.
I look at William. His green eyes are wide with shock. He looks at me.
“Wha-?” he begins.
“Do I look weak now?” I say.
Damn that felt good.
