The next day, noon
~William’s POV~
“Thank you for your time,” the stranger says. “My name is Reese.”
Me and Pax sit across from a man with tan skin.
“Alright,” I say. What do you want?”
“Simple,” Reese responds. “I was checking around Kairo. King Ramses II and his army died there and people go there all the time to pay their respects. But recently, people have been going missing and I went there to check.”
“And?” Pax asks. “What did you find?”
“Nothing. I went to the tower but a felt a dark presence before I went in. I couldn’t bring myself to go in so I went back to the town. I’ve been asking around for someone to check but either they don’t believe me or they don’t want to go.”
“Why don’t you go?”
“It’s not that I don’t want to. I do. But I don’t have the skills of an adventurer. And if something bad happens, I will most definitely not survive. So I need someone else who has those skills to help. I’ll pay as much as I can.”
Me and Pax exchange glances for a moment. And then we look at Reese.
“We’ll talk payment later,” I say. “We’ll go later today.”
I have never seen someone look so relieved and afraid at the same time.
Meanwhile, Bandit Camp
~Corrupt AG Officer’s POV~
“Shit, shit, shit,” I think*.*
4 people stand over me. The bandits lie dead at their feet.
“So this is the person?” one of them ask. His brown, curled hair hangs over his face.
“Yup, this is the one,” the one of the others, possibly their leader, says. “He’s been turning a blind eye to this place in exchange for lamina payments.”
“I hate corruption,” another one says. Her hair’s cut short and her eyes glint with hatred.
“Of course you do,” the last one says. Her long black hair waves behind her.
“We gotta go back,” the brown haired one says. “We’ve been gone too long.” He and the short haired woman fly away on sky skates.
“C’mon Avery, let’s go,” the long haired woman says.
“Alright, but first, let’s take care of the loose end.”
The man walks to me and points his gun at my head. Flames begin to gather within the gun and he imbues his magic into the weapon.
