Arcane Adventures: Book 2: Chapter XLVI

Evening, Oblitesco Harbor

~Pax’s Perspective~

I drop the crate of supplies into the hold of the caravel. I dust my hands and close the hatch. I turn to Will and shoot him a thumbs up. He nods in acknowledgement before shooting a look to the Delta in the distance, where Landon is heading to the Altavistans.

“You miss him already?” I ask.

“Yeah, I do,” Will replies. “You ready to go?”

“I dunno, I still think we should leave tomorrow morning. Seems safer.”

“It could take us days to get there.”

“The trip here took us 2 days. That trip was more than twice the distance we’re going to travel now.”

“Did you not pay attention to what Landon told us on the way here from Altavista?”

“I was belowdeck, dumbass. I had spirit exhaustion, remember? Castor told me to rest.”

“Oh, right. Landon told me there’s a strong underwater current from the Borealis Shipwreck to Altavista that sped up our journey. That’s why we were able to reach Oblitesco in a matter of 2 days.”

“Ok. Even so, I still think we should leave tomorrow.”

“Nope. We’re leaving now, whether you like it or not. That’s nonnegotiable. Theos wanted us to meet him as soon as we’re done. So we’re leaving now.”

“Fine. But you’re sailing first. I’m gonna take a nap.”

“Deal.”

~Landon’s Perspective~

I look back at the lights of Oblitesco before heading belowdeck. I head down to the berth deck of the brig, where half of the crew is sleeping.

“Hey Landon,” says Avery. He points to a hammock in the corner. “You’re sleeping there.”

“Thanks,” I tell him. He nods before leaving. I walk to my hammock and put my bag down next to it. I lie down on the hammock and close my eyes, grabbing my locket and letting the lull of the ship’s movement send me to sleep.
