AA is one of my favorite games of all time, even though objectively speaking it doesnt come close to AO, this was truly a game that knew what it wanted to be: Greek Pirate magic dbz. AA has the same feeling of playing a childhood game, even though its just fine objectively speaking, something about it sticks with you.
For me its the wonder of exploring an ocean with strong foes and crazy islands. Like you wake up in an island, meet Theos, get sent to beat a dark mage, then you go to Savaria and see other players, do a bunch of quests and beat the curse of rah. After that you go to a sky island like damn this whole thing was above me the whole time? And then straight to the borealis where thereâs people fighting each other like crazy all the time, where you have the realization that everything you went through was just 1 sea. And when you turn on sensing you see a crazy power level far far away and wonder what it could be.
Theos remains my favorite character in the AU, I like how heâs blatantly the mentor figure you meet at the start but is actually really powerful, that moment where he talks to you about his life on the sunrise ravine is peak.
Part of what made AA so great is that it didnt take itself so seriously, it was mostly about having fun, and yes its good that AO is more serious of a game since its has a lot more effort put into it but at times I miss the simplicity of AA.
To hate on Arcane Reborn, even though im grateful they let me experience the joy of AA again, they donât seem to understand the thing this game was going for, both in gameplay and artstyle. I dont like raids as its not something thats in the world itself, raids teleport you to another server and this breaks from the experience that everything is just supposed to be there, in the world within arms reach. And the whole artstyle is much more deep and higher resolution, they even added blue fog and blur to the sea which I hate. Again it makes the game feel more âseriousâ when in reality the plain visuals suited it more to the type of gameplay and feel it was going for. AR is basically âyo what if AA was higher qualityâ while not understanding what made it good.
While we may have differing opinions, I completely agree here. I never got the fortune to experience AA but from what I see here, if I did play it you and me would most likely have the same opinions. Iâve only played AR until Ramses and watched the lore vids but personally
Thatâs what I love about AO too in my own opinion, you got it spot on.
Arcane Reborn sucks ass 99% because of what legendary weapons turned it into.
Of course, that is looking at the root cause.
But some members of clans such as misfits and desolation are also an issue, the even bigger grind for sunken warrior and sunken champion sets is also an issue, terrible balancing of bosses is also an issue, the list goes on
Honestly vetex should just make an arcane adventures remake with all of the graphics visuals scaoing stats and base codes of ao, just less magics different story and different islands.
I think AA clears AO, mostly because of the setting which is way more unique and chaotic, whereas the setting in AO feels too forced and like vetex is trying to replicate something he clearly didnt envision being in the arcane franchise to begin with
the difference between aa and ao seems to be that you are much more personal with the powers that be. in aa you meet theos, one of the strongest people in the world right off the bat, and you fight every single powerful foe to save the island or something
in ao itâs all about politics and you canât actually kill the powerful people because theyâre strong and also killing them would have massive political implications on every other empire and whatever idk
the scale of the story is much larger and you are a much smaller piece in it
Vetex wanted to have an equivalent of Middle Earth, though perhaps slightly less creative due to the already existing pantheon of gods, but creative nontheless.
Then somewhere along the way he went âbut writing is too hardddddddâ, and deleted everything which made his world unique or assimilated it with the real world and Greek mythology.
Isnât that what happened with just WoM and Magius? I think the War Seas is just meant to be more of AA.
I think he is genuinely passionate about this setting, because he ditched WoM just to have the seas back.
Iâm talking about the ancient world and the potential in lore it had until Vetex went âhur dur writing hardâ, scrapped it all and just decided to use real world history for everything he doesnât want to write about (originally War Ages).
The setting isnât sea/land, itâs original lore reusing already known deities/abominable child of real world history, greek mythology and bits of original lore which was aborted yet survived.
Oh yeah, the lore? Itâs so unfantastical! Itâs literally just real life to your average Hellenistic Polytheist but also Prometheus made a deal with scary man and Arthur Pendragon became a pirate god so now thereâs magic powers for some people and islands.
Hey, Stock, can you go read my book series? Itâs called Peter Johnson and the Olympians, it stars a kid called Peter Johnson who is a son of Poseidon and wants to stop Chronos from rising!
Itâs peak fantasy!
Iâm not talking about how fantastical it is, Iâm talking about how creative it is, which isnât a lot in the slightest when you consider that a completely original world with mostly completely original characters and completely original lore got watered down into a âwhat if real world but every mythology and legendarium mashed togetherâ.
Even though let them cook and all that, I hope the story doesnt become too game of thronesy or elden ringish. I tire of the retcons and if it goes any further it will feel like a betrayal of something that was once good and unique, in favor of âlook im just like themâ
Series where your status in the world is determined by how strong you are results in most strong guys you want to fight also being major political figures
i think ar is more of a remake that tried modernizing the game and continuing the storyline by following the webtoon but ended up making it lose its spark
I think the whole âfollowing the webtoons where the original game left offâ thing kind of flows into the issue of making the game too serious which is present in AO
The webtoon kind of sort of makes it a bit too extreme and dramatic, while also having Oblitesco manage to exist in the same universe.
Original AA feels like it can handle something intense and important happening, while also having it generally be whimsical.
