Arcane Findings / Theorycrafting (Show)

Spoilers For The Arcane Show Ahead

Hey there, this thread is destined to all Arcane lovers, here you can put appreciation posts, findings and theories. If you haven’t seen Arcane, go watch it ! If you’re planning to watch it but haven’t gotten to it yet, don’t scroll !

I’ll start. On Season 2, Episode 7, during the dimension switch, Heimerdinger plays Spin The Wheel. While listening to it, I found that one of the verses was extremely intereseting as a piece of foreshadowing for the rest of the season, and possibly Ekko and Jinx’s untold future.

TW: Suicide

Here's how the lyrics go:

Wait 'til your brothers and your sisters, see where you been
And if you loved the journey more than the end, go ahead
Just turn that hourglass around and count to ten
This ain’t goodbye no more
Nah, it just began

There is just so much here, and it's insane I didn't notice it before, I didn't see much being said about it either. I'll try and make a line per line analysis:

Wait 'til your brothers and your sisters, see where you been
The verb “wait”, evokes the theme of time, so closely related to both Ekko and Heimerdinger’s character. While Ekko’s chasing after time, wait is a core concept of Heimerdinger’s character.
Following the idea that this verse, if not the whole song, is directed towards Ekko, the “sisters” might be referencing Vi and Jinx, while the “brothers” evoke the firelights.

And if you loved the journey more than the end, go ahead
This line is the one I’m the least confident interpreting. I believe, that this is conveys the same message as episode 7’s core quote “sometimes taking a leap forward means leaving a few things behind”. While yes, this episode’s parralel universe has all that Ekko wishes for, he cannot enjoy the end, without going through the journey. This seems to be Heimerdinger convincing Ekko to go back to his world.

Just turn that hourglass around and count to ten
Second mention of time, and this one is even closer related to Ekko. Turning the hourglass around both explicitly references the rewinding of time, which is the key to end both Ekko’s arc in season 2, and conclude the last stand. However, Ekko also notably has an hourglass facepainted on. From that feature of his design, we could assume that Ekko embodies the hourglass, and is advised to turn himself around. One way to interpret this idea of turning around might be to give Jinx another chance, or more generally to look at his world and city with a new eye.
What bothers me with this line, is the “[counting] to ten”. Were it perfectly fitting for Ekko’s character, the lyrics would go “count to four”, however I do believe that that’d sound a bit off. If you’ve got any interpretation for this “ten”, I’d love to hear about it.

This ain’t goodbye no more
This to me is one of the most important lines of the song. We must keep in mind when looking at this, that this song is sung one episode before Ekko stops Jinx from taking her own life. I believe that this is just a very clever foreshadowing to this, I’d go even further, seeing what the last line is.

Nah, it just began
Call me insane, but this, to me, is the last piece of evidence that allows us to know that Jinx is not dead. With all the hints pointed at her being still alive (the airship at the end of episode 9, the shimmer purple streak seen before the explosion when she’s falling with evolved Warwick), the main idea that went against that was the relevance of her death for storytelling purposes. If I’m gonna be completely honest, despite how much I wanted her to be alive, I whole heartedly believed that her death was beneficial for the story, as I liked the idea of her finding a purpose in her chaotic personality. If it weren’t for Ekko, I’d have no doubt that Jinx had died, however, Ekko allows her to find a new point in her destructive nature. If you’re not conviced, one last point I must bring to the table is that, up until late in production, episode 8 included a scene of Ekko, not only talking Jinx out of her decision, but also motivating her to live on.

Thanks for taking your time to read this if you did, I know how niche this is, but I was so hyped when I first discovered this that I had to share it. I'm eager to see what you guys have to say about this !

In addition, in an interview Jinx’s voice actress said “no comment” on whether or not she was still alive but in another question said that Jayce was “definitely dead” so :)))))))

never watched the show but this sounds like a name from a budget “phineas and ferb”
