Arcane Odyssey combat/PVP is not bad

Sorry if a post like this has already been made but I’m so tired of people saying Arcane Odyssey’s combat is bad or saying the game is more PvE focused as an excuse, because the combat is honestly really unique and fun when you actually get into it. And I’m not saying the game is balanced because I agree there needs to be changes, I’m just talking about the combat system overall. I understand this is subjective but there’s too many people who just immediately put the game down because of the combat.

Arcane Odyssey’s combat isn’t bad, it’s just different from the normal m1 combat all the Roblox anime games use. I’ve played since World of Magic so I was pretty good with magic and most breezed through the story bosses but I can see why people might not like the combat initially if they’re not used to it. However, my biggest problem is people judging the combat without even trying it, like just as an example look at the youtuber Infernasu. He plays all the anime games that use m1 combat so when he saw the trailer for this game he was immediately like “this combat sucks” and I think that a lot of his fans just automatically agreed with him with. He also stopped making videos on it as soon as he finished the storyline and didn’t even try pvp or anything else because he just saw it was different from what he usually plays.

One of Infernasu’s complaints was that there’s no cooldowns on blasts or that there’s low cooldowns on other moves which makes the combat just spamming skills. And he’s not even wrong, but that doesn’t make the combat bad. In games that use the stun m1 type combat, the winner is just whoever can do the best combos and most skills are combo extenders, so if they didn’t have cooldowns there would just be infinite combos where the opponent can’t do anything. But for AO where you’re dashing around on a big arena, you can’t have these long cooldowns.

Honestly I’d argue that AO pvp requires much more skill than other games as well. Idk if you guys have ever played GPO but I can literally go m1 m1 m1, press q, m1 m1 m1, press e, etc and deal half my opponents health by barely moving my mouse. Not only does this require like no skill but it also gets boring after you play like hundreds of matches just doing the same thing. Even when I tried to switch up my build in GPO, it wasn’t fun cause the only way you could win is by doing these long combos. AO actually requires aim and prediction and is a lot harder to master, which is another reason people might not like it initially since they’re just not good at it and not used to it. But like once you actually try it it’s really fun. Those who actually put time into getting better at pvp will understand

Idk if I’m missing something but I just had to rant because I’ve seen too many people complaining about the combat, cause I genuinely don’t know how this many people hate it

arcane odyssey combat IS bad wdym

It isn’t blox fruits combat or DW combat, but it is 100000000000000000000% bad. Even I, who loves to fight people illegally admits it.

i wrote a whole essay here and all you say is “it is bad wdym” :sob:

AO combat is fine, no idea why key thinks it sucks but I find it pretty smooth and well refined as of now.

Only real complaint I have is warrior awakening is kinda poopoo and mages are fucking nut busting hamburger munching OP but that’s getting fixed anyways (not sure about the warrior thing sadly)

yeah it definitely needs balancing that’s a completely reasonable complaint i was just talking about like the combat overall since its a lot different than other roblox games

also warriors are getting a buff but they seem pretty good already too? i haven’t tried it but i think they currently get a size buff on skills which seems pretty good. if anything fighting styles are poopoo rn for pvp

as if 80% of roblox games don’t have this to some degree lol, it’s just that M1s aren’t required to land any meaningful damage

AO combat is nice when you get used to it, I do wish that M1s were more impactful (aerial M1s are really finnicky, idk, and the block pushback is annoying), and hope that size gets a bit of a nerf in regards to damage

I think AO combat really reminds of older style game combat and I find the movement controls pretty easy to pick up and learn, there’s something so innately satisfying about zooming around with dashing that no other game can really replicate.

Also even though I said classes are kinda unbalanced as of now I still find the ones I’ve played to be so much fun, warriors are versatility incarnate and I have an addiction to throwing axes at random NPCs now because of it, mages with their comically large attacks and ridiculous spells capable of shredding boss HP within seconds (I legit killed carina in under 20 seconds wtf :sob:) gives me a feeling of so much power.

i think the problem with m1s is that they don’t stun so when you get close and try to m1 you just eat a ton of damage most of the time, but if vetex did make them stun pvp would just become reliant on combos like all these other games so it’s kinda tough making m1s better

yeah every class is so much fun even if they’re not balanced which is great cause there’s so many good options if you’re not just following the meta, one of the things i love about the game

Btw unrelated question but what’s the best weapon loadout?

sabre/silent blades/triasta

sabre/triasta/ravenna greatsword

sabre/triasta/greataxe (unsure if there’s a ravenna version of this)

sabre/triasta/poison dagger or sanguine

silent blades/dagger weapon/triasta

i haven’t tried weapons yet except on a new file that’s not maxed yet but i can help you from what i’ve seen other people use
i don’t think i’ve seen anyone use triasta yet cause its like a higher level weapon so i can’t say much about that. other than that sabre and greatsword are really good, silent blades is also pretty decent + it has a move that almost acts as iframes which is useful. idk about poison dagger i would maybe only use if it if you have a magic or fighting style that synergizes well with poison.

well the reason daggers are such a high priority to me is because they have access to a move called “spiraling fury” which is kinda like the crash skill for strength builds, allowing for increased movement + closing in distances with zoner players.

i think the katana or dual blade dash moves are just better versions of that

actually they really aren’t the travel distance is A LOT shorter and they have really bad endlag

interesting guess you can try it then

combat is kinda clunky but it isn’t ass

The pvp could be good if it wasn’t terribly unbalanced and laggy.
As it is right now, its not great.

I love the dashes, leaps, and high jumps, genuinely fun to do. Personally haven’t experienced much lag with the game except when going through dozens of smoke arrows, combat is mobile and fast paced and being in alpha has the tiny side effect of everything not being well balanced but I can personally live with that knowing that it can get better.

The combat isn’t this horrid atrocity many make it to be, it’s fun when you get into it
Plus it’s a unique turn away from the “m1 parry m1 spam skills m1 m1 m1 m1 spam skills parry” combat so many games have nowadays
