Player VS Player

Vetex should have put serious thought in how PVP would work before adding it. Most game devs just treat PVP as a whole like a non-negotiable mechanic and throw it in assuming everyone will enjoy it. PVP creates a lot of problems for games–it makes the entire fandom more toxic, it dissuades lower-end PC players from playing, it forces additional stress, and it can cause some players to quit the game entirely. With all that in mind, one would think Vetex would have put some bloody thought into it, yet he barely did. Also, PVP amplifies balancing issues–if there’s limited to no PVP in a game, balancing is far less of a concern, as so long as no setup is useless or obscenely easy to use, balancing it doesn’t matter nearly as much.

Builds

Vitality should have been finished before the game released into early access. An entire fourth of the builds in the game are lacking part of their kit–in what game is that acceptable? Imagine if a forth of the Smash Bros roster were missing their side and down specials–would that ever be acceptable? Heck no. So why is it okay here?

State of the Game

Arcane Odyssey is an Early Access Game. Let me repeat that one more time, because nobody seems to get this: ARCANE ODYSSEY IS AN EARLY ACCESS GAME.

If Vetex adds something to the game that invalidates a few hours you spent grinding, but fixes a big issue, suck it up. What you’re playing is patchwork, don’t whine just because something changes.

… I say that about everything except the balance team. I have no idea what they’re smoking over there to think that the most recent changes were by any means acceptable.

Scaling is overblown and needs a nerf before Nimbus

The Dark Sea Update was pretty nifty–sure, it should have been in the base game, but oh well. Big problem is; It upgraded the scaling issue from a considerable worry to an immediate threat. The new enchantments and jewels allow for some absolutely idiotic builds. Why the hell did anyone think it would be okay to allow players to have 400 attack size at level 125? Or 4K HP? Or 1K+ damage? I am all for build diversity, but if this is how it’s going to be, then I am very, very afraid of what the post-Nimbus Sea meta will look like. If you aren’t afraid, then let me just tell you a few words to make you reconsider:

800 Attack Size will be a perfectly achievable build.

THIS THIS THIS

Why do we have access to island sized attacks when we’re nowhere even HALFWAY max level. Attack size overall is lame to me cause the existence of it implies that in late game scaling you’ll have attacks that are impossible to dodge, and we’re already dangerously close to that now.

We shouldn’t have island-sized attacks even at max level except for a few extreme causes with ultimate attacks or smth.

Earth is kaka metal

Because it comes at a high cost if u go rlly high into any one stat u will be severely lacking in other stats

The balancing rlly isn’t that bad ur in desperate need of attention is all that it is

I mean yeah, I probably am, but the scaling is definitely going to be an issue in the future. Also, may I remind you this these are hot takes, as in things that not everyone will agree with?

imo i hate the jewels, they aren’t really that cool of a system as potions, and just kinda make a bigger gap between players. like, why can people on the same level be completly different strenght wise. jewels shouldn’t have been added, and the effects they give should’ve either been potion effects or enchantments.

so my hottake, remove the jewels, this is literally the only time we still have where they can be removed because we are still in early access. scaling without jewels is already not that great, but then it would be managable, but we have like 3 things to manage balancing wise, that’s just dumb, having 2 (the armor itself and then enchantments) is much more feasable to balance and scale properly. having another permanent stat boost you can give yourself is just bonkers

the scaling is 100% a mess, like i absolutly don’t believe that we will actually become level 1000. i’m still thinking we at max will be like level 500, but even then the scaling is insane.

I wish items were far rarer, mainly rare items such as boss drops and dark sea exclusive scrolls. Remove the ability to disenchant items and add a rare disenchant scroll.

Nothing in the game apart from sunkens/seasonals feels rare atm, I’d love for there to be more items that require long grinds to get. In addition, maxed builds should be a rarity, not something every server has.

I think that complete builds will become more rare as the game progresses. Having certain things at the rarity of sunken for higher levels means that there is almost always something that you could be getting that is better.

I’m unsure about the disenchanting thing though. If it wasn’t for enchantment scrolls I would be very against it, but at the moment I don’t really have an opinion.

We just need to look at wom2 for this. Yes I know that wom2 isnt very serious, as its like a side game now with a 10000 level cap. However, any pvp clips we get of it with people at levels as low as 600 are literally just a show of who can hit first, since both players are guaranteed to land the hits, due to how big the attacks are. Its also important to note that even with the 200 level cap on most items, their stats dont go even near what we would be able to do in AO at even level 150, due to the insane enchantments, atlantean essence and gems we have. We desperately need to change this somehow, otherwise later on the only required skill will be aiming in the general direction of your opponent.

400+ attack size builds already exist, my friend.

There is nothing you can do.

Cope, seethe, whine.

It matters not.

Soon, the entire game will become AOE simulator.

Everything that’s dumb: Boss health increases relative to player amount(anything that has to do with NPC health increase relative to player(s) stats), restricted areas till the story is complete, point system(just not enough content to have an adequate class-base-point system to retain entertainment), perm-banning exploiters, dark sea in the same game-instance/universe as the bronze sea And the most inimical of them all, level-cap increase restricted to story update. Also, there was no point in making AO, should’ve just kept developing WOM. By the time AO was complete, the content amount in WOM would’ve been enough to maintain new/old players.

The guns really need a change. The shots are really hard to hit when the npcs are jumping running around aimlessly

i think they should keep the reagent effects like coppershroom energy regen and etc because i’m tired of running out of energy i want to use attacks forever without the need to think
idk what they’d do with the exotic gems, maybe just make them sell for a lot ooooor make it into something you can use to make enchantment scrolls or something. that’d be cool
