Took five minutes for what
To get sober running
damn, was he drunk before?
just a few questions about this and other related questions regarding linux and gaming;
- is there any risk to your roblox account getting banned for doing this? since roblox doesnt natively support linux, would it be safer to run roblox/roblox studio on a vm instead?
- how do you run other games? how good is steam proton and are there any notable games that you play/are aware of that are very “anti-linux”?
- what are some major issues you have in regards to day-to-day work on linux and when playing games compared to using an os like windows 10-11/macos?
- ive heard nvidia gpus are a lot easier to use with linux now. is this true? im asking all these questions since im debating switching from windows to linux and im planning on buying a 4090 for it

I don’t think so, as if Roblox didn’t want people playing on Sober they could just ban it or say so. Plus Roblox makes vm users enable gpu pass through and a bunch of other stuff which is too complex for me lol.

I haven’t really used Proton that much but from what I hear it’s pretty good, plus there’s ProtonDB which is very helpful for finding good linux games. I mostly play games with native Linux ports (mostly just Rimworld rn). I can’t really think of any anti Linux games off the top of my head but there are probably some which are. Also I don’t play Minecraft that much but I’ve heard Minecraft Java runs better on Linux than Windows sometimes.

I’ve only really had two in like ~4 months of using Linux. My Bluetooth headphones were kind of staticy before I downloaded an alternative audio driver (PipeWire), and Steam kept downloading the Windows versions of games instead of the Linux native ones for some reason (toggle Force compatibility tool checkbox on and off). It really depends what distro you use though, like running Arch or TinyCore will probably give you a ton of everyday problems.

I have no idea- my computer doesn’t have an NVIDIA gpu.
I would honestly say to dual boot at first, either on your main disk or with an external SSD (HDDs will be a lot slower). Linux can run pretty well on smaller storage amounts compared to windows ( If you just want to try it out with a few games or smth, I would recommend a 64 - 128 gb partition for small distros ) and it’s also a lot more customizable- hence you’ll be able to tweak the memory usage and processes a lot more than Windows.
I use Linux Mint Cinnamon, which I think is a fairly good beginner distro (Has GUIs for a lot of vital tasks).
Also my only gripes with Sober rn are the performance and graphics optimization, and they’re mild gripes.
conveniently found this thread while googling about sober. i was trying to see if i could get roblox to run somehow on a mint 22 vm (failed, surprisingly to nobody). actually good to see this since i’m sure now that pc-only games should work, considering how sober actually works by using an android runtime and all that
