Arcane Odyssey Tone and Setting Alignment

Arcane Odyssey, as described by Vetex, is a “harsh, magic-polluted world” in which “Many will die, but only the strong survive”. But how much of this is felt by everyone in the fanbase? After all, our perspectives are likely different than the NPCs, and, with this being a Roblox game, there’s a limit on how dark it can become.

Below is a link to a Worldanvil article explaining an “alignment chart” of sorts where different quantities render a world in terms of its “noble-grim” and “light-dark” scale.

What are your thoughts? Are the War Seas really so bad? Are they true misery? Where do you feel the game’s setting would sit on this chart?

i think it would be bleak for sure because the protag destroyed talos with good intentions, and also killed many people with the same good intentions (elius if chosen same with carina, and then argos and calvus for sure). plus the only way to get rid of magic pollution is with time so the citizens would prob feel despair from being trapped in the sea clusters unless theyre brave enough to travel into the dark sea. also fear from the constant war, and due to curse users, more fear they could be obliterated at any time from one guy (take for example julian the homelander)

its gonna get wild past the bronze sea tho

again you mentioned only the strong surviving, and the player is def strong :person_shrugging: he defeated the king of ravenna (who admittedly was a spoiled brat) without even awakening or getting a dodge reflex

There are definitely a lot of darker undertones like what happened to MC and Morden, and let me remind you that happened to them for MONTHS, Beringer having something similar happen to him just so that he could tell them where the Death Curse is, people getting executed, there was also a mass genocide of a whole kingdom so…

Since this is merely the first part of the story (1/6th of it), I think its obvious we havent really seen the real dangers of the War Seas yet. The focus of the next sea is “War”, so Nimbus Sea is probs the part where MC and the gang gets exposed to the real nature of the War Seas and the reason why its called… well, the War Seas. And you should know that war is DEFINITELY not for the light of heart.

The events of the story takes place when conflict in the War Seas is at an absolute high, and we do have hints of it. Corsair Country announces war against Grand Navy, Jaw Pirates becoming more powerful, Cerunno doing who knows what in the south, etc. We’re probably limited on whats going on a bit because Bronze Sea is at the very north of all the kingdoms, all the other 5 Seas are at the south.

The Order seems to be very active recently, that could be one of the reasons why conflict is also kickstarting itself now. Because theyre now setting their plans in motion.

So far, only the Dark Sea feels like the “harsh, magic-polluted world” and stuff

But of course it’s just the bronze sea atm and we are about to go to war in Nimbus so yeah

So, overall, where would ya’ll place AO’s “Alignment”? If you had to place it somewhere on the chart?

i think either nobleglow or knightglow depending on how little people are considered a group, since a lot of stuff happens because of some very specific people like theos and durza’s fight messing up the world and the peacekeeper then defeating durza and destroying curses in the future, and glow because while most everyone’s living a happy life, there is a dark side with all the weird magic pollution stuff and order of aesir

According to me, it’s a Knightdim world. The player and his team are going to change the world, some ppl are against the evil rulers. And on the other hand, life is hard, the world is polluted as fuck and a normal ppl’s life is not safe not very happy.

Sounds fairly reasonable—most people have the potential to have agency, even if the world itself is not so great.

I agree with the above. Though, the examples of Nobledim are stories that includes groups, so I think it’s either Nobledim or Knightdim

Arcane Adventures definitely falls into Nobleglow or Knightglow. Theres bad stuff going on, but people are also mostly comfortable with their lives.
