Vetex said somewhere only the Cloud Curse is in their storage, and we’ve only seen Julian with the ol’ glass curse.

Maybe the eldest just found the curse himself and didn’t want to have a curse handed to him prior, and before having a curse he was still a pretty good fighter.

Why does it say “not the dark sea”? Doesn’t it say in Morden’s Journal that he went into the dark sea to steal the curse?

Yeah pretty sure he was just skirting the border of the Rift when he came upon the curse.
In my opinion he accidentaly entered The Dark Sea near Fort Talos and made big semi circle up to the behinds of Pelion rift. Besides, we don’t know how Dark Sea’s borders work in lore, cuz just wall of fog is not enough. Probably lorewise everything behind Pelion rift may be a zone which is half-Dark Sea and further you are from the rift, the more it is Dark Sea.
