Art question or the other artists (my opps 😌) on this forum

How do you guys go about coloring your pieces?

do you manually do it or is there some other way?

how do you render/shade?

just stuff pertaining to coloring I guess

Black and white >>> coloring

I don’t draw digital though
But I usually just think of the kind of texture I wanna give the object, and then try to recreate it with pen strokes. Usually if it’s anything darker than white I try to just give it a base tint (by making stroken in one specific direction) and then create depth and shadows by overlapping other strokes but in a different angle

You can also create really cool textures if you play around with what direction you draw your strokes in

Ok for real tho
  • Color is done by randomly picking whatever color my cursor lands on first. I do try to follow color theory to an extent when creating actual pieces though.

This is a really good site for choosing colors in general : https://color.adobe.com/create/color-wheel

  • Insert Blender magic here…

  • More blender magic…

  • Consider what feelings you want to invoke with your coloring. Warmer tones are generally more red-ish / orange while blues and purples are cooler. You can also look into the meanings of certain colors themselves as well for another level to your coloring.

Base colors and then I just kinda ball it out (still a wip)
I render on 1-2 layers and my method in this piece is cell shading and then selecting (lasso) + a textured airbrush at some part : P
Other than that I am an enjoyer of painterly rendering (also on one layer)
Coloring always depens on vibe i want but I am a SUCKER for purple shading with yellow lighting (even if its not accurate)

I personally use Krita (I’m pretty sure you do too) and I use the contiguous select tool on the outside of my lineart, grow the selection, and I invert the selection to keep the colors in the lines.

I use watercolor brushes, specifically the WaterC_Flat_Decay_Tilt for mostly everything and WaterC_ Basic_Lines_Dry for details.

I do my colors on one layer and try keeping the color semi-transparent for texture, starting with base colors and then shading it. I typically don’t add highlights to my art, but when I do they go before the shadows and I use my detail brush for them.

Hope this helps!

I just make layers under the linework, play around a bit with stuff, and pray it looks good in the end.
