Ash Magic with Fire or Explosion Magic?

Hey guys, I started a mage account with ash magic (because I think it looks the coolest) and I was wondering whether I should learn Fire or Explosion magic as my secondary. They can both inflict petrified with ash, although explosion gives the charred effect (10 seconds, no damage) while fire inflicts burning (5 seconds, 35% damage).

Ash gets a 20% damage boost when paired with fire and fire gets a 10% damage boost when opponent is petrified.
Ash gets a 10% damage boost when paired with explosion and explosion gets a 20% damage boost when opponent is petrified.

What do you guys think?

Also, does explosion do 20% or 40% damage on a petrified target? The trello says 40% but the wiki says 20%…

trello outdated, all synergies are 10% and the ones that clear effects are 20%
